Freeview Tuning Problems and VCRs, DVD recorders, Sky Boxes.

Started this discussion. Last reply by Biggles May 16, 2014. 2 Replies

I have noticed that many people asking for help with tuning Freeview don't specify a lot of information (some give none). If people have old VCRs, DVD Recorders and/or old Sky boxes should power them…Continue

Biggles replied to Andrew's discussion Trying to get signal via screw sockets
"As I figured you probably have Sat and UHF distributed on the one cable. Auto tuning will have found the UHF signals OK. You'll only get Freeview Satellite if your TV has an inbuilt Satellite Tuner."

Biggles replied to Alan Stanton's discussion recording
"That's normal. Your STB obviously has two tuners and when both are recording channels on different MUX you can only watch another channel that is also on one of those two MUX. TV1 and 2 are on one MUX, Prime is on another and TV3 is on yet…"

"Is it only those 2 channels? What about the other channels on the same MUX? Can you get 3+1, Bravo+1, Maori  etc..? They are all on the same MUX so if they are all missing then you most likely have an antenna/cabling problem. Have you checked…"

Biggles replied to melissa harvey's discussion Reception priblems
"Most likely your LNB is failing. Check your signal strength and quality in the setup menu. You will probably find the TVNZ MUX is weaker than the others. Losing TVNZ is often first indication of slow LNB failure. You may be able to improve strength…"

Biggles replied to Alan Coe's discussion Does Freeview Plus have the same closed captioning as Freeview?
"Yes, they can. I did this when I had a Panny Recorder and a Panny Blu Ray Player. Up to 6 different remote codes available to avoid clashes. The Pannie DVR looked ok, but I need  2 units, so need to check that the remotes can be programmed to…"

Biggles replied to Alan Coe's discussion Does Freeview Plus have the same closed captioning as Freeview?
"My understanding is that Freeview Plus is just an add-on to standard Freeview so CC should be the same. However I believe the Freeview Plus can be disabled leaving you with standard old Freeview without it's associated problems. I can't…"

I couldn't do an autotune on the T2200 cos I had no service! Anyway I just whizzed out and bought an HDMI lead and it worked. The guy at Noel Leeming told me none of the FreeviewPlus-approved recorders come with HDMI cables, which is a bit rich when they sell for $400 upwards. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Biggles. So why does the Aerial Box come with AV leads and no HDMI cable?
