Puponga ( Farewell Spit ) . I know if I put the address in the appropriate place on the correct page it says only satellite reception, But ...   On street view (Google maps) there are houses with UHF antennas. I will be spending some time in Puponga and would like to be able to watch some telly.

It's a lot easier for me to take a TV (with freeview ) and a UHF antenna. Much more difficult to take a Satellite dish and seperate tuner box.

Does anyone know what it's like over there ??

Cheers, Graham

Graham the easiest way to find out is go and ask some of your closest neighbours that might have an arieal on there house and ask them how good their reception is . Also they might be in a different position to where you are i.e higher up on a hill and no trees in the way

Thanks David, but I'm not there yet, and don't know anyone who is there.

Looking on Google Maps they seem to be high gain antennae pointing in the general direction of Wellington.  They're probably getting long range reception from Kaukau but I suspect it would be weak signals and reception would be variable, intermittent and wx dependent. I doubt they'd  get a signal from Nelson due to high ground in the way. There may even be long range over water propogation from Wharite though I suspect it's too far away. Just a case of suck it and see.

Thanks for that. I don't have the technical expertise, but that's close to what I guessed it may be. I'll just try and see ...  thanks again

I've installed aerials in Puponga without a problem. Depends where in Puponga you are.

signal probably Mt Campbell as kaukau doesn't go west

Well it does according to it's coverage map. East side of Arapawa Is shows good reception likely.

Willis is right and you dont need a high gain antennae. The coverage map is so flawed. There is no way you will get  kaukau anywhere in the south island. Otherwise i would be using it. In the old analog days we used to get Sky and TV3 from Wellington but no Digital

Excellent feedback guys, I'm off over there for the weekend. I don't have a mast to attach antenna to, but  I'll try and see what happens.
