Has anyone in the Nelson region noticed an increase in pixelation, over most channels, since the big retune on the 1st May? Channel 3 seems particularly bad.

Hi Speedbrake

Thank-you for enquiry, I have re-checked to see if there are any issues in Nelson and the network is running fine.

I suggest you realign your aerial, the Retune might of affected the sight of the transmission provider and because new frequencies were allocated they do shift, Get someone you know or a Installer to realign your aerial and test to see if all channels have a suitable signal and picture.

Kind Regards
Joshua Hill

Thanks Joshua. I don't think the transmitter site has moved, the tower is still there! I have also re-tuned so am mystified. We are on the limit of range for the transmitter so will just have to live with it.

Can you view the Mainland TV channels?

nzdtv.com - On the Samsung and Sony TVs yes, but not on the Panasonic DMR XW380 recorder for some reason, that has never tuned the mainland channels.

Hi Speedbrake

No, the transmitter hasn't moved but the frequencies on it have which is causing you some issues, I have a Panasonic XW380 and I have noticed it is very fussy in terms on signal and channel strength whilst my Samsung TV can cope with the signal fine, ''

Kind Regards

Hey Speedbrake, to my knowledge channel 3 wasn't touched on 1 May (only Al Jazeera, TVSN, Yes Shop and Te Reo were moved on 1 May).  Have you tried manually tuning / scanning?  Sometimes that locks in the frequencies a bit better (esp if you're in a marginal coverage area).

Anybody can please check and confirm the exact RF channel numbers on www.freeviewforum.co.nz/tip/rf for Nelson (both Kaka Hill, or Botanical Ridge and Mt Campbell)?

Mainland TV isn't officially a Freeview channel so it's not on that linked chart, but I think the frequency for that is 26 and 27 (for Kaka Hill and Mt Campbell, respectively)

Hi Joshua

I can pick up Mainland TV ok with the built-in Freeview receivers in the 2 TVs but the XW380 won't pick it up.

We have a signal booster installed already as we live quite a way out from Nelson over the plains and I have had to use good quality aerial cables. The thin cables supplied with the equipment caused a lot of signal loss and were unable to pick up Mainland. Changing to the better quality cables sorted that out.

Will try retuning again and see what happens.

Thanks Joshua

David

Thank you Bel. I will try manually tuning the mainland channels. Which is the horizontally polarized transmitter in Nelson, Kaka Hill or Botanical Ridge? Maybe it's the same place!

Cheers

David

The fact that Mainland TV is not on the Freeview platform is irrelevant. All digital decoders, TVs, Recorders, are able to receive Mainland TV whether Freeview Certified or not as long as their tuners cover the appropriate frequencies. Just try a manual tune if auto-tune doesn't work.

In terms of Mainland TV, This is not a Freeview Allocated channel so Freeview decoders will not pick this up from what I am aware.

I've done a scan here Mount Campbell has the following muxes active

33
41
47

Mainland TV is not from the same site but pretty much in the same general direction operating on channel 26. 8 TV services + 2 radios load from Channels 800-809

Speedbrake good point re polarity - please see www.freeviewforum.co.nz/tip/rf for polarity for Mt Campbell and Kaka Hill.  Thanks NZDTV for confirming and cheers Biggles for that link (Speedbrake check that link Biggles posted for channel numbers for Mainland TV to try with a manual tune/scan).

Yes, its been quite annoying and I have had to change channels to clear it. We are getting our signal from Mt Campbell. Lg TV and set top box box both been getting it.

Its been happening for 10 days or so.

Cheers
