Has anyone in the Nelson region noticed an increase in pixelation, over most channels, since the big retune on the 1st May? Channel 3 seems particularly bad.
Cheers

4G or LTE filters can make a difference( I will only use aerials with this built in ) But that isn't anything to do with speedbrakes problem.
FYI: Kaka hill is only an infill for Nelson, Kaka hill is fed from Mt Campbell, So if Mt Campbell is having issues so is KAKA hill.

Hi Speedbrake, I'm not sure what happened with the auto reply of my first message with your question I wasn't logged in then,
I think someone already said the answer to why we go off Mt Campbell, perfect line of sight to where we are at Saxton's area, can't see Kaka Hill from here, plus we had an old UHF pointing there for analog prime, I was having an issue with my Panasonic My Freeview not getting the guide data properly it wasn't recording properly, which at the moment has been happening a bit, so got all aerials taken down (old analog 123 prime) and got a new made for digital one with filters, made a difference, sorry for going off topic, just another experience,
Hi All
Still seems to be a bit of miss information out there.
Some folks are reporting pixelation on channels since Easter. One thing to check for those tuned to Mainland TV (Takaka Hill ch27) & Freeview (Mt Campbell) is inside the box where the cable attaches to the antenna. Many UHF TV antennas let the water in when mounted vertical so you may have water effecting signals. About Easter we had some very heavy rain and this time of year things are not drying out quickly. Many of the good installers put some silicon on the top side of the box to stop water getting in and leaving the bottom open so if water does get in it can get out.
Mainland TV broadcasts the same 8 digital TV channels plus 2 radio stations from Princes Drive Nelson at Tasman Heights using UHF channel 26 Horizontial polarity. It covers out to Belgrove, Wakefield, Nelson City, Stoke, Tahuna Richmond, Moutere, Mapu, Motueka and Kaiteri.
Our site on the Takaka hill is on the top near where the main road goes over the hill and we broadcast on UHF channel 27 vertical. It covers Atawhai, Nelson, Tahuna, port hills, Stoke, Richmond to Hope, the Moutere, Motueka and parts of Golden Bay. We need to realine our Golden Bay antennas at some stage to improve reception in Takaka. We have a dedicated microwave link plus an off air receiver that feeds the Takaka hill transmitter.
For the best results we suggest those tuned into Freeview at Mt Campbell turn their UHF antennas using vertical polarity and point them towards the Takaka hill. All measurements show this is the best option as Freeview channels run more power and when the UHF antennas are pointed at the Takaka hill Mainland and Freeview all come in at similar strengths and therefore one does not overload mast head amps etc if you are using one. Most people do not need amplifiers unless you are using a number of antenna outlets in your house or long runs of coax. Remember its the number of outlets not how many TV's are turned on that counts as the signal is shared to each outlet whether there is a TV on it or not.
All this is assuming the TV stations are all on air and operating correctly. If you are having problems with reception I suggest you contact a few others who normally get good reception before you start pulling things to bits.
Our website at www.7-media.net has a lot of tips to ensure you get good reception on all channels. We also broadcast our News on SKY channel 83 on Saturdays at 4.30pm and Sundays at 9,30pm plus our Issues program at 9.30pm on Monday nights. You can als0 watch us via Twitters, Facebook, YouTube and Video on demand anytime.
We designed and build our own digital TV platform in 2011 and have designed and built many TV and Radio stations in NZ and overseas over the past 21 years.
Whilst many on this forum have good intentions some of the advice is not true. Most are offering good advise and I note most of the TV antenna installers are on to it.

To those in the Nelson region
I note many people think Freeview in Nelson City comes off Kaka hill.
This is not true. Have a look at the map. Kaka hill is 459 Metres above sea level and about 2km east of where Freeview transmits from which is the JDA site that is called Britania Ridge. Still don't believe me. Go on the MBIE Smart website and have a look at the licenses.
Britania Ridge is about 150 metres above sea level and is about 2 hundred metres north of the centre of NZ.
Now you should be able to plot reception paths better.
cheers Gary - Mainland TV Nelson - www.7-media.net
PS Good advice coming from Adrien in Motueka - He is onto it.
Well stated Gary.
I see MBIE now refer to Botanical Ridge and not Kaka Hill as they used to.
People should realise that almost all reception problems originate in their own setup between the antenna and the TV/Recorder. It's a really good idea to make sure that all the antenna connections and circuit board are totally weatherproof when installed and stay weatherproof. It takes very little water ingess to affect the antenna circuit board and degrade the signal significantly. Over time the tracks can get eaten by corrosion and go open circuit if not thouroughly protected. Also water ingress into the co-ax at the antenna junction will quickly downgrade the signal as well as destroy the co-ax over time. My antenna has been out in the Auckland sea-salt laden atmosphere for 5 years now and I reckon it's getting near replacement time. UHF antennae are not as forgiving nor last as long as the old VHF analogue ones.
If your car develops faults or fails a W.O.F. you get it serviced. You should do the same with UHF antennae.
Thanks Gary, Keep up the good work.

all channels or some?

We're still experiencing regular pixelation and dropout. I spoke with a sky and freeview installer and he said his company has been overwhelmed with calls with the same complaint. It seems the problem is to do with an overloaded transmitter, and needs some serious upgrade/investment to resolve the problem.
Bel, I see there is nothing about the Nelson region on the network status page any more. Did anything come out of it?
Nelson has been restored, as I said earlier there was a problem with the fibre between Motueka and Blenheim.
If your still experiencing pixelation the problem lies elsewhere.
The transmitter is not overloaded, its all brand new.
Ring me on 0272232423
Thank you for the information SNM.
I did a retune recently and have no further problems. Looks like the problem, for us, lay with the fibre cable from Blenheim.
I shall just sit back now, patiently waiting for more channels to be added. Hopefully not more shopping or religious.
Cheers
