In trying to reset factory defaults, I lost all channels, and there is no option for the Nelson area on the reset list. Tried Wellington and West Coast, no joy... only get a maximum of 78% signal and no service ensues

In that case you'll need to do a manual tune for each channel although if it was working before it must have been tuned OK. Is there a selection for "all regions"?  What equipment? At 78% you should be getting something. I had to select "all regions" on my PC Tuner card (Hauppage) as the software hasn't been updated yet for the regional frequency changes on 1 May and there is no way I can tune individual channels using the software. "All regions" allows my tuner to scan all channels and not just my regional channels. Then I just delete the ones I don't want.

wouldnt worry about the region, could  use northland for instance

what are your quality readings on 12483 and 12456 horizontal?

OK. Thought you were talking about terrestrial tuning. The ZMX 7500 is Satellite so Regional selection doesn't apply.

Hi Rand,

So you have no channels? The issue might be the LNB setting you have set on your device, Ffollow these instructions to restore your channels

1. Press Menu and select System Installation, and then Edit Satellite

2. With Optus D1 showing at the top, cursor down to LNB No. scroll left and right to LNB1 or LNB2 and  select the one which shows the 100% yellow signal bar at the bottom and press

Ok

Let me know on how you get on

Kind Regards
Joshua

The regions are only for advertising on the on regional feeds, this is why you have more than 1 TV1 when its tuning, I just use Canterbury. Your problem lies elsewhere. Any problems ring me on 0272232423

Are you currently receiving any channels?

If so when you change channels, an information window (iPlate) pops up at the bottom of the screen for about 2 seconds to show you which channel you are on with other information about the channel you are viewing.   Look at the green bar which is an indication of the signal quality and should be close to 100%.  Below 85% you will usually have pixellation (colour mosaics) occurring and may lose the channel altogether.  If this is the case you could have an off-frequency or failing LNB.

Have a look at these instructions  which may help you with a temporary fix.  You will need to refer to Joshua's reply above to determine the LNB type and local oscillator frequency (11300 or 10750)to use with these instructions.   In Joshua's instructions the yellow signal indication should be a constant 100% on the appropriate LNB number 1 or 2.   If not the above link gives you instructions on how to adjust the local oscillator frequency to compensate for an off-frequency LNB.   Only LNB15 or 16 settings can be edited.  LNB1 & 2 are not adjustable hence the use of 15 or 16 instead.

I suggest you choose either Wellington or Canterbury as your region (it only affects the adverts you will see on TV1 & TV3)

As you have a Zinwell you won't get either Prime or C4 . It could be a better idea to get a new box with updated features .I installed a Dish box for a friend over the weekend and I noticed it 6 extra radio stations besides the 4 freeview ones . But keep it as a back up and connect to your recording device for when you want to watch something later on

Of course you can get Prime and others with a Zinwell.

I have also provided updated instructions (non- pictorial) in my Dropbox for adding Prime and other FTA channels
