We live in Invercargill and are getting terrestrial freeview.  For the last 2 weeks we have been unable pre-set and record any channels.  The error message says it is a "code 2" error which I have found out is a broadcaster error.  We have been advised to reboot our decoder and turn off the power - despite many attempts still no luck at getting the thing to record.

Not sure if anyone has any suggestions - I cant find out who to complain to; the decoder manufacturer has logged our problem with 'the broadcaster' and we are told to just wait till the problem is fixed.

At a guess I would say you have a DishTV recorder?

See network status here

It's not a transmission problem but appears to be a problem with DishTV equipment.

You are right its a Magic TV recorder.  Dish TV were a bit coy about saying it was a broadcaster  problem and probably wouldnt like to admit its a problem with their stuff?.

Looks like we might have to consider getting a new recorder?? - staying away from Dish TV equipment!!

Thankds

Hi Brendon, I was just asking someone what a code 2 error is as I'm still getting them (although they stopped for a day or so and then started again)  I rang dish tv who took my details (apparently they have been told too log all errors but its still the broadcasters problem)  Although someone told me it was a problem with my freeview box.

If it was a broadcaster's problem then ALL freeview boxes would be exhibiting the same fault. Apparently ONLY DishTV equipment has the problem.

My advice - take it back to the retailer and ask for refund or replacement under the CGA as it's no longer "fit for the purpose".

That could be on the cards but what does one replace it with

Well I use a Panasonic and have never had a problem (apart from a lightning strike) in over 4 years. You get what you pay for with recorders. Quality and reliability equates to price.

That could be on the cards I'm getting a bit fed up with Dish Tv's "customer service" and their "Magic Tv"  it seems that no one else i know is having this problem.  I'll probably go and see what I can find I've got a Samsung Tv so would probably prefur a Samsung recorder.

Im glad to see we are not the only one having trouble with the Magic TV and pre-recording.  Our decoder is 3 years old and hasn't missed a beat its just in the last 2 weeks the code 2 error came up.  It did go away for a day r 2 in the middle but is still there now.  I wonder what has started this problem if its been fine for so long makes you think something has changed possibly around the new channel frequencies - I wonder if Magic TV or Dish technologies can rectify the problem with some sort of software patch.  Im going to ask them about this else Ill have to get a new recorder - at least they appear now to be only half the price they were 3 years ago!!

Well I've just had the freeview guy here and he couldn't figure it out either, he said it was a firmware issue, we noted the latest firmware for the magic tv 3700 is dated october 2013, bout time they updated?

I am in Auckland and am still having this code -2 error when I try to record any Prime programme on my Panasonic DVD recorder, DMR-XW390. Last time I tried was yesterday 31 May 2014. According to the Network Status Report, this problem was supposed to have been fixed in Ak!

I had the same problem when trying to record in Auckland. I did a retune of all the channels and everything works fine now. Have you tried retuning?

Thanks Mike G, it is now 2 June, and I am happy to say that today, my code -2 error on my Panasonic DVD recorder has gone away. That is after doing nothing!
