We just bought a new TV and can't get all the channels, namely 1-3.  We have sky TV in our lounge and the TV is freeview ready. Do we have to get a freeview box if we want to get these channels?

Hi Vicki,

That's a Sky Satellite Dish and a TV1/2/3/4 VHF Aerial (Which are now obsolete). Your new TV needs a UHF Aerial to pick up the freeview channels.

So you need to either:-

1. Get a UHF aerial installed (If UHF is available in your area) and a cable run to the TV.

2. Get a Freeview Satellite receiver and get a cable run from the satellite dish to the TV.

Cheers,   Bill.

thanks Bill....how much is it to get the cable run? SO what does freeview ready mean on the tv then?

Freeview ready means the TV has a Freeview capable digital tuner. There are no longer any analogue transmissions so you are already receiving FreeviewHD but only one of the 3 Muxes (frequencies). All you need to do is remove the old VHF antenna (which is unsuitable for UHF) and get a UHF antenna installed. You should then be able to get all channels. Just get some quotes from some antenna installers to find out how much it will cost.

What about UHF rabbit ears do you think that would work? I actually can;t get any channels now, we had to return the original tv that we bought as the remote sensor wasn't working and now on this new one we can't get any signal!

If you can't get a picture with the current external antenna you certainly won't with an indoor antenna. A lot depends on your location which would appear to be in a weak signal are. Have you tried checking here for likely signal strength?
