There is no doubt that Freeview OnDemand is a very welcome addition to approved satellite boxes, but why not take this a step further...

As both TVNZ and MediaWorks now stream live online, why not also add this feature to the OnDemand service, available through one's set top box as well?

The benefits would be huge in attracting satellite viewers, as they too would be able to watch in high definition (albeit online), the same as those with Freeview terrestrial.

So what are your thoughts, and how about it Freeview?

Hey There,

Thanks for your awesome suggestions! Freeview are always working with broadcasters to help improve the Freeview On  Demand Service, as well as supporting changes to the digital television service. HD on Satellite is something on the list and has been something requested quite often but it all depends on who's on board and who's willing to invest in HD services on  Satellite.

Cheers!
Josh

Thanks for the suggestion!  It's definitely something we're open to explore as part of the Freeview technology road map.  It'll take time to work through both the technical aspects as well as the content distribution rights in partnership with broadcasters, so live streaming of live TV channels would take some time to implement.

For the time being, we're focused on making the Freeview On Demand service as seamless and reliable as possible, so we've got a good solid platform to build on for the delivery of more content, either streamed on demand or live.
