So.... a few weeks ago I started having intermittent reception problems. At the time I put it down to rain fade (or similar) but it happened more and more frequently and for longer periods. 6 days ago I lost reception altogether. But the weird thing is, whenever I turn on the Satbox it actually works for the first few minutes (anything from around 10 seconds to 4 minutes) and then I lose reception and get the message "No signal, check you cable or satellite dish".

I've done all the usual things like unplugging everything, turning it off at the wall, waiting ten minutes then trying again. I've also put the Satbox back to factory defaults and then re scanned.

When I turn it on I watch carefully while its booting and it appears that the only time I get any reception is during the initialising process.

I've checked my record list (just in case it works in the wee hours when I wouldn't actually be watching TV) and the last (successfully) recorded program was on the 17th of June. It recorded between 6.30am and 8am. Other than that its recorded nothing.

I'm stumped because I would have thought that if there was a major fault (maybe the LNB) there'd be no reception at all at any time.

Would love to get to this sorted. Any help gratefully received.

Sorry I assumed the satbox I am using would come up on the post since it was requested in my sign up details. It's DishTV S7070r.

Hi Lori

Everything you have said points to a failing LNB or misaligned Dish.

Are you using a Sky dish does the LNB look like the below?

You could try adjusting your lnb settings but this would only be a temporary fix.

Press the info button twice and Signal strength  and Quality will be displayed on the S7070r , post the results here

Sounds like your LNB has died. Increasingly intermittent signal loss over several months is a good indicator and reception probably varied with ambient temperature. I couldn't say for sure but I suspect that wen you turn on your box it starts supplying power to the LNB (which will be cold) and soon as the components warm up it drifts off frequency and signal is lost. You may regain reception temporarily if you try adjusting the LNB frequency in the menu up or down say 3 - 5mhz at a time. LNBs don't usually die suddenly but deteriorate over time and tend to drift a long way off frequency when they get hot.

Murphys law. No reception at all right now, not even for a few seconds so....strength and quality both 0% Weird thing is...I have another satellite dish (its a cheap freeview one not a sky dish) with another freeview box connected to another TV at the other end of the house and I lost reception there completely months ago. Didn't bother sorting that one at the time.  I'll try the main one again tomorrow, should get at least a few seconds reception hopefully. Many thanks Biggles

Yes, its a sky dish. Will check out the LNB tomorrow. Haven't seen it that close up before  lol Will get up a ladder and take a photo for you. Thanks Paul

I just gave it another try. It stayed on for a few seconds. I got Strength 64% and quality 10% before it died.   :(

Since you have lost signal on 2 separate dish's in the last year, I would suspect that you have something blocking the line of sight for both dish's , do you have alot of trees surrounding your property ?

Hmmm that did cross my mind. Nearly had a friend cut off a couple of large branches that appear to be inline with the Satellite dishes but the tree would have looked very odd and I couldn't be sure that was the problem. Sounds like it may have to be sacrificed :(

And I did think that if it was the tree there's be no reception at all....not even the 30 seconds to 3 or 4 mins I do get?

Tree branches removed. Thought it had done the trick. Got reception for about 5 minutes.....then gone again. Oh well....I have some firewood for next year. Really disappointed grrrr
