I have heard that Freeview channels will become available in  HD Satellite in 2018.

Is this true and if so will DVB-S2  HD receivers become available in 2017?

Short answer  -  maybe.

Given how far NZ is behind the rest of the world though I doubt it.

Plenty of DVB-S2 HD receivers are available already though not Freeview approved and not many in NZ. I have one on order from China which has  Satellite and UHF Tuners which will work worldwide plus it's a full Media Player, does TV streaming online, and under $100. It's basically an Android based computer with Tuners and much smaller than MySky Boxes. NZ media are just so far out of touch with technology.

P.S. I see from your profile you already use a DVB-S2 Rx - the Ultraplus F9000HD.

HD has not been confirmed however it is somthing Freeview are looking into,

DVBS2-HD recivers that are Freeview Approved are now the standard compliance and began last year, there are several DVBS2-HD Freeview Approved devices in the market. Non Approved DVBS2 devices are also anothe option however may not support some Freeview Specs and the responsibility will be with the company you purchase devices from.
