Is it a UHF antenna and are the antenna and co-ax in good condition? Sounds like your signal is marginal and you are only getting some of the mux available. You may have an old VHF antenna with old co-ax?

Hi Biggles, thanks for your reply.

This is the antenna I have on my roof. I assume this antenna should work on my TV since I can receive some of freeview channels. There is also a sky dish on the roof and I have a SatView satellite receiver, but there is no signal after hooking up. This is a rental property and I don't wanna spend too much money on this. What's the best way to watch basic TV channels? Will those small indoor antenna work with freeview?

No, that's an old Hi band/Lo Band VHF antenna which is no good for Freeview UHF. You need to replace it with a UHF antenna.

An indoor antenna might work if you have direct line of sight to the Transmitter mast at Waiatarua from your TV set's location but reception is not guaranteed. Judging from the size and height of the current VHF antenna I'd guess you don't have line of sight to Waiatarua. It looks like an old fringe reception beast.

Best option is to ask your landlord to replace the current antenna. Any further tenants will have the same problem as you.

Is it possible to buy a UHF antenna off trademe and switch with the old one using the same cables and indoor outlet?

I also will ask my landlord about the antenna.

Yes. Just remove the old one and replace with new UHF one. Replacing co-ax as well would be ideal too. Dick Smith does an installation pack around $100 and quite often has them on special at about $50. Shop around. Any decent Landlord should replace the antenna and co-ax to keep Tenants happy. Check you tenancy agreement. With any luck he may be required to provide suitable TV antenna in the contract. The one you have is unsuitable.

Hi, I asked my landlord and been told I have to install at my own cost. There is a sky dish on the roof and the cable is in my living room. I hooked up my satellite receiver, but not signal. I had no problem watching with the same setup at my old home. Do I need to change any settings? Current setting is Optus D1, LNB Freq 10750, Transponder 12456 H 22500, Polarity H. Also I got an amplified indoor antenna, but no signal. Can you tell me which direction and degree I need it to face?

In regards to your indoor antenna,

There are 2 possibly 3 transmitters you could possibly use but that depends on your environment in Hillsborough, you can download transmission maps here: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/coverage/coverage-maps.aspx

And using the drop down box look for Auckland. see which transmitters is closer to you, please note the following polarisations:

Waiatarua Auckland	Horizontal
Pinehill Auckland	Horizontal
Remuera Auckland	Vertical
Sky Tower Auckland	Vertical

The polarisation is how you should rest your antenna however some indoor antennas could pick up a signal from any angle.

Hi thanks for your reply.

The transmitter in Remuera is the closest one from my home, but I cannot receive any channels by moving my indoor antenna around. I guess I may have to live without TV at this house.
