7pm losing channels

Hello,

About 7pm every night in the last week I lose every freeview channel except the TV3 and Four block of channels. It's very odd, sometime in the night (or the next morning) the channels come back. I've found details on Sun fade issues, but not much on fading at dusk.

It happens on both TV and PVR, so not device specific.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Sun fade only affects Satellite and not UHF. I see from your profile you use UHF.

Have you checked and compared signal strength for each multiplex? Sounds like you have a weak signal and probably an antenna/coax or splitter (if using one) problem. Could be moisture forming after dark and affecting joints etc. Try connecting antenna cable direct to TV only and recheck strengths.

Have you also had the lines company come out to check the voltage coming into your house as there may be a fault with their transformer , I had that problem years ago when all the neighbours came home and turned on all their stoves and the voltage drop below 80 volts and the only channel I was able to get was 3 and that was the dsays of analoge tv

Thanks for the suggestions. I am using a splitter which is mounted under the house, though we have ground cover for ground under the house, so hopefully minimizing moisture. Would covering the plugs in Vaseline or something protect it from moisture?

Signal strength is a good question. So the block that has TV1 etc in it drops from 87% to nothing, as does the block with Prime, but the block with TV3 in it drops into the high 60s, hence why we can still watch that block of channels. Tonight I shall plug the coax straight into the TV and confirm.

Power related sounds like a 'fun' path to walk. An update to this is that it looks like the blocks come back at about 9-9:30pm (as I've given up in the past rather than trying again in the evenings like last night).

We flick on our dishwasher about 6:30pm and we have an HRV which goes nuts around sundown also. Appliance wise there are many factors in our house but nothing specific (like lights etc) that we turn on when it starts cutting out - and nothing new either. Perhaps the neighbours have invested in a cheap microwave? I inherited our aerial and I'm pretty sure it's not got any 3G and 4G filters, would I benefit from a newer UHF aerial on the roof?

That raises some more questions.

What Transmitter is the antenna pointing at and is the polarisation correct?

Haywards (Upper Hutt) would be Channels 29,33,35,37 Vertical and Kaukau is 28,32,34,36 Horizontal. Checking polarisation and retuning manually may help. If that doesn't work then a new antenna and co-ax should definitely help. Dump the splitter and run co-ax direct from antenna to PVR then from PVR to TV.

Still doesn't cure the fact that something external is impacting on the signals at night time. Try turning off everything in the house except the TV and see if signals return.

Thanks for the replies. I'm in Silverstream with direct line of sight to Haywards. Aerial is turned 90 degrees, been through that difficulty already. Coax is brand new, it was replaced when we dropped Sky about a year ago and I replaced it with high gain stuff.

Will do some more research into our appliances and check for consistencies.

About a month ago I figured out my issue. So about 7pm the signal increases and takes me over the 100%, hence the dropping out. So I removed the front part of my two part aerial and everything has been fine for since.

Do you have a Panasonic recorder?
If so that will be the cause, there is no way you would get too much signal from an infill

tx like Haywards. To prove it simply unplug the male / female leads from the PVR & join them together. An easier fix would have been to fit a filter or attenuator
