Since the re-tune on 1 May, I have been missing channels such as Al Jazeera, TVSN, YesShop and CUE. I am in an apartment building that uses a shared aerial but the building manager has told me it is probably not the modulator that is causing the issue because I am the only one who has reported problems. Can anyone tell me if it is likely to be a problem with the aerial jack in my apartment or if it could be an issue with the TV which has Freeview built in? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So a technician installed a new frequency on the aerial and I'm now getting the channels I was missing. Unfortunately, I've now lost Maori Television, Prime, Choice, Sommet, Te Reo and Firstlight. Any idea what could have caused this?

Yes. All you have to do is tune your TV to the new modulator's channel.

Will this work without a separate decoder? I have Freeview in-built in my TV

so frequency 28 has been added while frequency 36 has gone?

what happens when you do a manual scan of frq 36?

I'm not at home at the moment so I can't check for sure, but I'm pretty certain it comes back with no signal

Nothing definitely happens when I do a manual scan for frq 36

Does anyone have any insights they can provide into what might be causing this? It is super-frustrating

You need to do a rescan to find all the channels. There are now four muxes being transmitted in Auckland. In Apartment distribution systems the master receiver will tune these four muxes (channels) and remodulate them on different channels (which will be totally different to the received channels) to distribute around the building. An auto scan should tune all of them. If auto tune doesn't work then try manual tuning for all four.Your building manager should be able to tell you what frequencies are being distributed. If you can't tune all four then there is a problem with you setup and I would suggest you get a Tech/Installer in to sort it out, preferably one who knows about apartment installations. Also find out if your neighbours are able to tune all four.

I've done an auto scan and a manual scan with no luck. Just to clarify, even though we had the currently missing channels before we got the previously missing channels back, that doesn't make a difference? Because before the modulator was installed to get back Al Jazeera, YesShop, TVSN, APNA and Firstlight we did receive Prime, Maori TV, Choice, Sommet, Chinese TV and all of the radio channels just fine.

As I said, if you can't locate four channels with auto and manual scans then there is a problem in your setup. Ask you building manager what channels the buildings modulators are on and I would suggest you find out who did the installation and get them to come back and sort out the problem. Be aware that if you also have Sky TV with a built in modulator there is a possibility it could be wiping out one mux. Not much else you can do without getting a pro in to look at the problem.

on tv 1 go to manual scan and see if it gives the frequency no 21-69

same on tv3

picking it may have been frequency converted from 32,34,36 to 21,24,27 coming of ch 28 may mean 24 hs gone to 23 and 25 added or done something else with it all

frequency conversion is done to avoid flylead pickup on the upper floors causing signal cancellation

you also mentioned cue which is a satellite ch and will have a modulator running on yet another frequency maybe even on atv ]analogue]

Willis is correct. Do a manual scan from ch21 - 69 and tell us what channels you are getting and what they relate to i.e what channel your TV receives the TVNZ mux (TV1, 2 etc), what channel receives the Mediaworks mux (Ch3,4 etc), what channel receives the Kordia mux (Prime etc) and what channel receives the WTV mux (Al Jazeera etc). There should also be another mux for Igloo but the TV shouldn't be able to receive it as it is a different transmission format that requires a specific STB. If you can't receive all 4 (tell us what you do receive) then there is a problem somewhere, either in your apartment or in the buildings TV distribution system. After manually scanning the range tell us just what frequencies you are receving. This is why I suggest you liaise with your building manager and the installer to find out what is wrong. Ask you building manager and other tenants just exactly how many channels they receive and if they can get the ones you are missing. Also be aware that the channel numbers for each channel you select to watch on the TV are "Virtual Channels" i.e just all the multiple channel signals on the 4 mux arranged into an order in a menu and not the actually transmitted channels which relate to frequency. A lot of people don't understand that the 29 or so channels they get on their TV are transmitted on only four rf channels which are called mux (multiplex). The old analogue channels could only carry one virtual channel on each channel. Digital channels can carry many.

and when you do find out exactly what gives write it down and stick it to the tv socket for next time or the saga will start all over again
