I have a Panasonic TV with built-in Freeview but would like very much to use the MyFreeview option and record shows.
Is this possible or do I need to purchase other services/facilities?

You may be able to record to external media using your TV depending on the model of your Panasonic .
You can only record Freeview from your TV if it has Composite A/V output terminals and nearly all TVs with Freeview in-built do not have video out terminal because of restrictions by Freeview licensing. Generally to record Freeview you will need either a STB connected to a recorder (DVD or VHS) or a PVR or MyFreeview (Freeview certified) recorder. Using a STB you will not be able to record in HD.
I use a Panasonic BWT720 which records Freeview, will burn HD to Blu Ray discs and SD to DVD discs. It also plays all discs including 3D Blu Ray. Basically for recording you get what you pay for and IMO my Panasonic is the best value for money.
See Network Status page for updates.
