USB playback of video files has broken-up audio 90% of the time (DishTV T1050)

Hi All,

I copied a few known good AVI/MKV files to a USB drive (not high definition) and when playing them in the DishTV T1050 via HDMI the audio is badly broken up with random gaps about a 1/4 of a second in at a high rate. Audio is broken up far more often than it plays fine.

USB drives activity light suggests that the box is buffering its reading so the box itself has to be the cause of the issue?!

Is this a codec issue? Firmware issue?

Anyone else encountered this?

Thanks!

Last firmware was released 28 October 2012

My  Dish Tv S7010PVR plays Xvid fine , but doesn't support 5.1 Channel audio or MKV.

Hmmm. Yeah. B@#&er.

It looks to me like H264 Codec is the problem somehow,or support for H264 codec. Bizarre.

By toying with Seek Fwd/Back and Track Fwd/Back, the fault REVERSES!

It result is either loss of control or the player operation, OR the audio then sounds fine, but the picture now has a jerky/broken effect.

Most crazy repeatable effect [bug] I.ve ever seen!

Since AVI/XVID are ok, what is a good simple [free] conversion program to convert MKV?

Thanks folks for any advice, which will be greatly appreciated...!

Most PVRs are not really designed to play files on USB sticks or HDDs. They are only an added feature and generally perform poorly. Even my top of the line Panasonic is reluctant to play most files. If you want to play files from your PC, USB stick or HDD the get a media player. That's what they are designed to do. TVs and PVRs are generally useless in this area.

Thanks for that. If I'd known this in advance I'd never have bothered spending $400 on a MyFreeView box, and just got a budget decoder-only box.

What are DishTV like with their support? If I complain what are the chances they'll fix the problem or provide a firmware update?

Support is very poor in my opinion  , chances of a firmware update to fix MKV  stuttering zero to none.

In my experience, Dish TV offer great support. If it doesn't do what it says on the box in regard to formats it can play, you should be entitled to a refund. What exactly does it claim to playback?

Its very vague re which formats it supports.

Cut and paste from the user manual below.

Some media files may not play, please phone DishTV help line for information on playing media files.
