Have just moved into new development of apartments, connected my Samsung with built in freeview to the antenna socket, and it only tunes in to TV1 and 2 (and both+1). Have repeatedly tried retuning and still no other channels at all. Picture is very sharp. Building AV installer claims all is good with aerial etc. Any ideas, please!

Sounds like insufficient signal. Have you checked with neighbours ?

Make sure that the antenna socket you connected to has a UHF antenna on the other end and not a Dish. Also be aware that Apartment blocks often have an Antenna connected to a TV distribution system that converts the signal to different frequencies before sending to all the Apartments. Check with your Building Manager to see how the signal gets to your TV wall socket.

Thanks. Have been told there are both UHF antenna and dish on the roof, and both signals come through the same "wire" to the apartment. Strange that 1 and 2 are so clear and nothing else at all ??

if theres only 1 wall plate socket may need a tv/sat separator unit to get rid of the sat signal harmonics

and are you on the top floor of the building? could be flylead pickup picking up enougth direct signal to partially cancel out the distributed signal

Hi Jim

It might be best to ask your manager to get an installer  or someone they know to come in and check it out, I knew a friend who had the same problem in Auckland CBD and even I tried to fix the issue, it was something with the internal system which caused several issues, so see if you can get the landlord or manager to get it sorted asap.

Cheers, Joshua

Thanks guys. Will speak with installer again. Have dish receiver box also, so will check whether that part of the system is working okay.

You could also try to partially remove the flylead out of the wall while you tune (just in case the levels are too high)

Mystery solved! Seems the cabling was installed by 'apprentices' that day - the wall socket (and two power sockets!) were wired up back to front....
