Signal lost when using adaptor to convert RF type cable to Screw on F-type connection
Hi Team,
I recently moved our tv from the lounge to the bedroom.
In the lounge I was using a dish tv set top box (dish tv satBox S7070r) with a ftype connector screwed into the set top box's LNB in socket. This generated digital tv to my samsung 55in led hd tv which had no freeview built in (a few years old). All worked fine, all channels, clear picture etc Yay....
In our bedroom we have the older style RF connection (non screw on) & cable for generating a signal. However because the set top box only has the screw on type connection (no RF input) i needed an adaptor to convert RF to F-type coaxial connection so I could screw it in to the back of the set top box.
When I did so I get no signal.
I have tested the set top box, the tv, the rf cable, signal & all is working. The adaptor seems to be where the signal is lost between the cable & tje set top box. I have also returned & swapped the adaptor incase it was faulty. Still no signal.
Any ideas Team?

Mass produced RF cables are very bad at IF . Let alone RF. Are you sure there is actually an IF signal coming from the dish?

Theres your problem. 2 different technologies. 2 completely different frequencies. Satellite is SD and Terrestrial is HD.

Ok thanks. So the rf connection in the bedroom is SD & the adaptor is then trying to convert to HD?? How do i fix this?

Sounds to me like the antenna connection in the lounge is connected to a satellite dish and the connector in the Bedroom is either connected to a TV antenna or runs to the lounge to pick up rf out from a STB. The STB must be connected to a satellite dish.

I think what you have described sounds logical & might be the issue. As we rent i dont know whats installed however there seems to be both types of sockets in the lounge where as only the rf type in the bedroom.
Any work arounds? Why would they sell an adaptor if it doesnt transfer a signal, seems weird

The cable going to the Satbox needs to be connected to a satellite dish. Not an Aerial.

Its an pal to f-type adapter. It doesnt know what your trying to push through it.

So i can connect the rf to a tv with built in freeview & works fine but if i go through the set top box to a tv with no freeview built in it doesnt work? What if i got a set top box with an rf input, would this work?

No. You will need an aerialbox or UHF box to connect to an aerial. Satboxes do not work on aerials.

Thank you, that was what i thought we were getting to. Any recommendations on good quality/reasonable price box?
