Where's your post?

Right off to a good start with not adding any text for my discussion!
I have noticed recently that my reception has been getting worse for my terrestrial freeview. I decided to bite the bullet and replace my old massive VHF/UHF aerial with a smaller UHF Dish TV one. Now on the old aerial I have 90%+ for both signal strength and quality but I was still getting a lot of breakups. Since putting the new aerial on I have dropped my signal strength to the mid 40s with Quality in the 70s. Of course I am getting a lot of freezing with this amount of signal.

I have been dealing with Dish TV as I thought it must have been the freeview box I had, as when I plug my cheap nasty Veon TV in with built in Freeview it seems to get a lot better signal.

I have replaced all cables, and retuned all the channels., I have also added a UHF band pass filter which did absolutely nothing.

I have tried moving the cables away from anything that might interfare with the signal and I have been on the roof checking that the aerial is pointing in the right direction.

I can't figure out what else could be the problem except for the DishTV box.

The reception also seems to get worse around 5-7pm.

I would appreciate any suggestions people have as to what else I can do. Dish TV don't seem to think it is anything to do with their box and suggested the bandpass filter.

Cheers

Chris

Sorry it got stuck and wouldn't send!

Whereabouts in CH? Do you have line of site to the Transmitter? Is your antenna correctly polarised (Horizontal)?

What does the veon display in terms of signal/quality?

WE live in Redwood. Excellent line of site to the transmitter and the aerial is on a two storey house with no obstructions.

Not sure about the polarising, I tried the angle of the aerial from horizontal through to point up at the transmitter but it didn't seem to change.

The veon is more like 75-95% for signal strength /quality

If you have direct line of sight to the Tx then you should be getting 100/100 strength/quality so there must be a problem with the antenna system. Check for broken joints etc. Did you use rg6 cable with f connectors?  How are you connecting to the Veon and DishTV? Polarisation info here.

Best way to setup is start with antenna and good quality co-ax direct to the TV then work from there.

Plenty more info about UHF setup on the Resources pages (see top of page menus).

Thanks, I have checked the cable and for the first 10 metres it is RG6 then the last 6 or so is RG62AU. I have ordered some RG6 to see if that makes a difference. The Veon currently is normally running on a pair of rabbit ears pointed at the transmitter and it gets a stronger signal than the dish box on the external aerial. I will see how I go when the new cable arrives.

Thanks for your help.
