For the past week most of the programs I have recorded on my MTV3600 have either no program name or the odd Japanese character in the Recorded programs list and no description. Once the recording is playing, the INFO function does give the correct name and description. This has been reported in the Geekzone Forums and has occurred around the country on other units. It may be tied up with the recent problem reported on the Dish T1050. I have reloaded the firmware, reset the programs to record and rebooted the MTV3600 without any noticeable change.

Hi Terry, there was an update made to improve data compression on the DTT platform (the one that's received via UHF aerials) on THU 18 DEC, which would allow broadcasters to provider richer programme info for their shows in the near future.
All manufacturers were supplied with test streams before this change took place to ensure that theyr device models can handle the update but it appears something didn't go according to plan with the Magic TV 3600 & DishTV T1050pvr.
It's not feasible for Dish TV to investigate this error or release a firmware update to fix before the holidays, so the distribution engineers are rolling back this change today.
You may have to retune your recorder tomorrow if it's still displaying those random characters; although it should just go back to normal by itself.
Thanks for posting and letting us know Terry - sing out if anything else pops up.
I am aware of two other people with the same problem on their MTV3600.
I have followed pretty much the same path as you without success..
I note that the title information is there on the "TO DO" list as well as being there on the recording list when it is actually recording. It remains there with a "delayed play" and only disappears when complete.
I too have this problem with my Magic Box :(
Could you please explain in words of one syllable how to apply this update, thank you :)
- Unzip the contents from the above zip file to a FAT32-formatted USB flash drive.
- Note that the USB flash drive must not contain more than one .upg firmware file for Magic TV.
- Plug in the USB flash drive to the Magic TV
- Settings -> System -> Firmware Upgrade
See Network Status page for updates.
