I have a Zinwell ZMT-640PVR (It has a built in 500gb hdd). It is a terrestrial freeview. I live in Te Irirangi Drive, Flat Bush. Before May 1, I used to have Al Jazeera channel, but after I did the retuning Al Jazeera just disappeared. When I'm doing the retuning I can see Al Jazeera under channel 350016 but for some reason it is not saving it and when I look on the Channel listings it is not there. I tried everything I can think of like removing the power cord from the main power, removing the aerial for a little while, set default setting, I even updated the software to 1.2.4 which is latest one I can find, and I keep retuning it again and again hoping it will come back, but with no luck. I have all the channels that I used to have back after the retuning plus a new channel 36 Apna, except for al Jazeera on my Zinwell. I also have a Veon TV with built in freeview. I used the same aerial for both of them, but I have Al Jazeera channel on my Veon TV. Can anyone help please! I will appreciate any suggestions.

This may be a problem peculiar to the Zinwell. Sounds similar to what my PC Tuner card did. It tuned Al Jazeera at LCN CH16 but didn't work. After some playing about I found there was a second Al Jazeera in my list right at the very bottom of the list with a weird channel number which did work when selected. Check your channel list again to see if there is more than one Al Jazeera in the list. Removing the antenna lead and plugging in again plus cold booting and will do nothing. It's purely a tuning problem that seems to affect some brands of equipment. As in my case there is probably a duplicate channel in your list that will work, just have to find it. If there's not then I guess it's a firmware problem and you need to contact Zinwell. I solved my problem by deleting the one that didn't work and renumbering the other one to ch16. Incidentally, there are 4 channels on the same mux as Al Jazeera (Apna 36, Al Jazeera 16, Yes Shop 21, TVSN 20).  Check your channel list and see if they all work.

P.S. I had no problems with my Sony TV and Panasonic Recorder. All operated correctly after a manual tune for the new channels.

Thank you Biggles for your reply. I check on the channel list again but there is no channel l6 or other weird channel. Your correct that there are 4 channels on the same mux as Al Jazeera and they are all showing as I auto tune it, but for some reason after the retuning Al Jazeera is the only one not being saved. It is just gone. What I find confusing, is that before May 1, I used to have Al Jazeera. What kind of changes on May 1 re stack that affected the firmware to delete channel 16? What is frustrating is that people like me who owned a Zinwell ZMT-640PVR cannot get anymore support from Zinwell because they stop manufacturing this model, and there is no more firmware update available.

Hi Tess, see NETWORK STATUS - Zinwell's aware of this issue which is specific to the 620.  Drop Graham a line as he had managed to get Al Jazeera on his 640pvr - grahamw@gmx.com - so he might be able to suggest something for you.

Hi Tess

Best solution is dump the Zinwell and get a Panasonic Recorder. I've never had any problems with mine whereas my first two STBs were Zinwells, always gave me problems and they both died after 2 years. IMO they're absolute rubbish.

I exactly the same problem with my Igloo box.. But can get Al Jazeera on my Sony TV's built in receiver.

Did Zinwell ever find a solution to fix the problem with no Al Jazzera being received on their brand of set top box ? . As I have 1 that needs to be fixed for an elderly couple . When the new channels came on air the other week it still wasn't available and I see it has been removed from the Channel Updates page also.

  1. Carry out a restore to defaults
  2. Manually scan TVNZ, K1 & K2 Muxes (in any order) (UHF 29, 35 & 37 or 28, 34 & 36 depending on Auckland locality)
  3. Lastly scan Mediaworks Mux (UHF 33 or 32)

This is a temporary work around

(In the Auckland region, Al Jazeera will not be collected during a normal Auto Scan as the Mediaworks mux scans first and prevents the retention of Al Jazeera when K2 is scanned  after MW)

I get aj on ch 900 only after deleting 16 so the shopping channels are history as well

after many system resets on either mt erin or whariti aerials same result

scan 28/29 all is well, add tvnz all ok,add mediaworks trouble no aj on 16 apart from blank screen with 16 on the i plate

ok on 900 BUT i plate will not go away and box plays ok but locked up as remote no go apart from on/off

all i can put it down to is that aj is still there on mediaworks for jda sites and should be invisible to kordia sites yet the zinwell can still see it.

and same trouble on tvsn and yesshop so deleted.

Re-instating Al Jazeera on the Zinwell ZMT series and DSE G7503

The follow temporary work around has only been tried in Auckland and may change as network providers make further changes to their networks.

  1. Carry out a restore to defaults.  After the receiver restarts and the Select Location message appears, press "Exit" to access the system menu.
  2. Manually scan TVNZ, K1 & K2 Muxes (in any order) (UHF 29, 35 & 37 or 28, 34 & 36 depending on Auckland locality).  Refer to page 14 of the ZMT-620 User Guide for help with carrying out a Manual Scan
  3. Lastly scan Mediaworks Mux (UHF 33 or 32)

In the Auckland region, Al Jazeera will not be collected during a normal Auto Scan as the Mediaworks mux scans first and prevents the retention of Al Jazeera when K2 (UHF 34 or 35) is scanned  after MW

When there is a permanent confirmed fix then we will update the channel status page with instructions to Zinwell users on restoring Al Jazeera

Joshua

Graham the people concerned live in Rocky Bay , Waiheke Island and their areal is horizontal facing

Hi David,

My understanding is that the Waiheke in fill repeater is vertically polarised and uses the even numbered channels I mentioned above in my work around.     As far as I am aware the only horizontal transmission sites in Auckland are Waiatarua and  Pine Hill (blocked at Waiheke by Rangitoto), neither of which probably wont provide a usable signal in many parts of Waiheke.   If they are doing a manual scan they can check the signal quality and signal strength on each of the muxes at the same time to confirm if their signal is ok
