Your old DVD recorder doesn't have a digital tuner so it can't receive Freeview. You can either buy a STB to connect to your DVD recorder as a Digital Tuner or replace it with a Freeview Digital recorder. A FreeviewHD STB is the cheapest option but you won't be able to record in HD.

hi biggles thanks for that info I know it might sound stupid but what is an stb?

thanks

hi again I just  found out what it means thanks

What is the make and model of your dvd recorder ?

its a Philips model #DVDR3460/75

As Biggles has said DVDR3460/75 only has a analogue tuner  , but is useful for recording programs you want to transfer to DVD via a Uhf or satellite Stb.

I have our Dish TV S7070r satellite stb  connected to our DVD recorder via Composite cables so I can record to the hard-drive then to DVD if I wish to keep permanently .

oh ok thanks I only want to record some programs when I am not home so I can watch it later looks like I cant until I spend more money
