Hi there, have been having problems with reception as soon as the bad weather hits. Only started happening after the 28th April. It is just a standard LCD TV with no Freeview and I have a Zinwell Freeview box that is about 6 years old. I am in Heathcote Valley, Christchurch. Please help :(

Hi Tess

looking at the type of distortion you are experiencing I guess you are connected to Freeview via a Satellite Dish? Correct with if your wrong.

In bad weather, conditions can affect the equipment you are using and in this case this would be the Satellite Dish or Digital Antenna (UHF) Aerial you use to receive a signal.

These are the basic reasons why you are getting bad picture :

-Bad weather will cause "Rain Fade" which means the sky is blocked by thick cloud/rain/snow that will affect the signal from your house to the Transmitter Satellite.

-The weather has caused your dish to align off signal

-The weather has affected your LNB which is the machine in front of your dish.

Please have a look at your Dish on the Roof and check if the dish is unsecured (Moving around when you turn it) If the dish is unstable then that would be one of the cases you will need to get a technician to realign the dish to 160E to Optus D1. (Or get someone you know who can do this for free)

Ensure that the cable is secured to the LNB and is covered from the rain, usually a "Weather Boot" is used to cover the Cable and LNB Skew.

Your LNB cable needs to face the 8.00 Position and you can see by this forum http://freeviewforum.co.nz/forum/topics/freeview-satellite-adjustin...

Let me know how this goes?

Thanks

Awesome, thanks for that. Once the weather clears - which should be about Friday then I will try and get up there and have a look. Going to be interesting because it's a really old home with a high roof.

Will let you know what happens.

No worries, Stay safe and warm!

Cheers!
