My address 168 Tinakori road has no line of sight to Kaukau or Fitzherbert transmission towers. Freeview coverage indicated highly likely freeview HD coverage. So purchased an Igloo box, 91 element UHF antenna and RG6 cable and directed horizontally towards Kaukau and vertically towards Fitzherbert with no tv Channals from either. What direction is Wellington infill tower and will it work? Am I not doing it right or is there no freeview HD for pockets of Tinakori road? I am currently watching freeview satellite tv but trying to upgrade to HD based on coverage instructions has so far failed.

Check with your neighbours. Looking on google maps they all seem to be pointing vertical at Fitzherbert so presumably they are receiving OK. Look at their antennae and point the same direction. Judging from the various antannae in use around you there shouldn't be any problem.

Malcolm lane is adjacent to my house and there HD coverage is " likely with HIGH antenna". I can't see any high antennas so I assume they all use satallite dish. So I presume this is a problematic area. Also previously HD coverage was "unlikely" and from the day of digital switchover it changed to " very likely". Wonder if there has been any improvements happened or is it just an exaggeration of coverage cover up. Ultimately this coverage is only indicative and it is up to the insividuals in areas like mine to spend all the money for the experiment and find out freeview HD is not possible. How high can we go with a UHF antenna after all this is Wgtn CBD!

Like I said. I looked at your neighbourhood on Google Maps and lots houses have UHF antennae pointing vertically at Fitzherbert. Most are  just above roof level (some on the side of the house like 166) and I assume they are receiving OK. Seems to be just as  many UHF antennae as satellite dishes. Walk around the area and have a look. Your location looks fine to me for UHF Freeview. It may be that the Igloo box tuner is not very sensitive or you have a bad connection somewhere. I presume you don't have a Freeview TV?

If all else fails then you would need to get a Pro Antenna Installer to check out signal at your location.

Though I have a Tinakori road number my location is more comparable to Malcolm lane as I have a steep drive way from Tinakori road. My roof does not even reach Tinakori road. Think I need to hire a pro to see is it worth installing a UHF antenna rather than hiring a pro for installation. My tv has no built in freeview instead a DSE 7500 connected to dish antenna and works fine all Channals including Prime and Maori in standard definition.

Ah, I see your problem now. You're down the steep drive behind the two story buildings and Fitzherbert is probably only a low power site like our Auckland infills. I couldn't tune the Sky Tower infill here in Auckland on a STB a few years ago and I could see the tower from my roof.

You may need to get your antenna up to near the height of their roofs and may need a different type of antenna like the triple folding array here.

Definitely time to get a Pro to find if it is worth trying.

Good luck
