I have intermittent problems with the sound being out of sync with the picture on one or more channel. This happens occasionally (once or twice a month) and will affect two or three channels at the same time but not all channels. The sound can be anything from a second or two to 30 seconds before or after the picture. This affects both tuners I have (Panasonic hard disk recorder or Samsung TV). I have tried turning off either or both devices right back to turning power off at the wall) and this does not make any difference. This will last for some hours but will eventually resolve itself.
Any ideas on what causes this or how I can avoid it?

Last night Prime was nearly 10 secs out o synch. All other channels seemed OK.
I assume this is a Prime/Sky problem but and they should be made aware of it. How do I contact Prime?
I have managed to contact SKY/Prime and they confirm that there is a Transmission problem they are working on. Many reports of problems from Kapiti area.

If it happens using a USB input on the STB then it must be a processing problem internal to the box.
What happens if you play the Video file via USB on the TV?
This is one of the reasons I use a media player and I've had problems in the past playing files from a USB stick plugged in the Media Player. I think the problem lies with the actual USB stick. Now I play files via the Network of just transfer them to the internal HDD. No more problems.

The out of sync audio is definitely a very real and impossible to ignore problem. I have recordings of it at about two seconds out. I suspect looking beyond the Freeview system for the problem is a red herring. The problem occurs most consistently when playing a video file through the USB input on the back of the Freeview box. No broadcaster involved.
USB HDD probably better option than USB stick. I think my problem was that the transfer rate was too slow for adequate processing. If your laptop has HDMI out you could connect it direct to TV and play direct from laptop. Or if TV or Freeview box has a LAN connection try via the LAN. Plenty of options to play with, just depend on what type of files extension the gear will handle. I got the Media Player because it will play any type of file I feed it.

I can't put a USB straight into the TV but if you think it could it could be the USB stick I'll try it via hard drive, laptop or PS3 and get back to you. Thanks.
