I have just purchased a S7070r and have set up the tuning etc. All the stations are tuned but some stations (tv1, tv2 tv3) are rather fuzzy and the writing on ads etc is out of focus.  Please help.

Cut and paste below from Dish TV Support

Fuzzy or Blurry picture

The steps to correct this are as follows

  1. Switch the receiver off either using the power switch on the rear of the unit or at the wall
  2. Switch the receiver back on
  3. As soon as the receiver displays "load" press "up" "down" "up" in quick succession on the remote

The receiver will then perform an EPROM erase and restart

After the EPROM erase process has completed you will be prompted to select your region and press ok.

Once the scan process has completed you should have access to all channels again.

The above basically resets the box to factory defaults again.

It would make more sense if all channels were blurry , try setting your sharpness on TV to Maximum and see if that helps.

Which output are you using? and how old is your tv?

Picture quality may depend a lot on what combination TV and STB you are using. I had occasion to check the setup of my cousin's TV and S7070r the other day. I think the TV was an older Samsung and was connected via HDMI. The box only outputs 576i and I found the picture pretty awful by my standards. The writing on the menus was jagged but the live TV pictures were reasonable. Everything was setup correctly. She asked me about recording but has no USB HDD which is needed for the recording function. I have convinced her to buy a MyFreeview recorder as she is in a UHF reception area (Lower Hutt). Satellite was only installed because the STB was a gift, she only has VHF antenna and there was an unused Dish on the roof. Can't wait for her reaction when she can view and record FreeviewHD.
