Hi,

Yesterday I discovered that my receiver is not working at all, although there is power to it. Specifically, there is nothing showing up on the receiver's display, and the TV is not registering that the receiver is connected (which it definitely is).

The receiver is about 1.5-2 years old and was one my grandma bought and used for a few months before getting a TV with it built in. In total, it's probably had about 8 months use in its life. It's a DishTV T1020 receiver.

Yesterday when I went to use Freeview, I first noticed the remote wasn't doing anything and there was nothing happening on my TV (blank, blue screen, no recognition of Freeview). I tried switching the receiver off using its power button, but nothing happened. After that, I switched it off at the wall and back on again. That's when the display went blank (prior to this the display time was frozen at the incorrect time, which I noticed on Tuesday but didn't watch any TV that day so wasn't aware it probably wasn't going).

There is power going to the receiver because the green power light is on and there is a faint but obvious 'start up' sort of sound when I switch the receiver on at the wall.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Does anyone know if I/someone might be able to fix the issue or if a replacement will be needed?

Hi Sam. Sounds like the unit has failed. Like all electronic appliances, things can fail and breakdown sometimes without warning. The best thing to do would be to return it to the shop it was purchased in for a warranty repair. I'm sure it would be covered by the Consumer Guarantees Act.
Thanks Mike, good idea. :)

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to given an update on my story.

I contacted DishTV and they replied letting me know that I could send the box into them and they would diagnose the issue and fix it free of charge, unless the motherboard needed replacing. Fortunately it was an easy fix so it was free, or $6.50 if you factor in the cost to send the box to them.

They had great customer service and did not require a copy of a receipt (which I don't have since the box was originally my grandma's and she doesn't know where it is anymore).

If you have an issue with any of their products, I highly recommend getting in touch with them directly to see if there is anything they can do. It may be cheaper or more straight-forward than taking it back to the shop you bought it from.

Here's another update to this story: the receiver is broken again, as of this morning. It was working fine last night but the same problem occurred this morning.

I'm going to get a new one, I think.

I have contact Dish TV again and if I receive anything helpful back from them, I will add it here for reference.

If its out of Warranty take it back where you bought it and ask for a replacement under the CGA. Alternatively tell DishTV you want it replaced. For a CGA claim you shouild really approach the retailer where it was puchased first and they should deal with DishTV.

Hi Biggles,

Unfortunately I (nor my grandmother, who the box originally belonged to) have the receipt of purchase, so I don't know if I could go this route. This is what I would have done originally, had we been able to locate the receipt.

Thanks, though.

Hi Sam

That does make it awkward but if you know where it was purchased and the date they should be able to find the sale in their computer system. I've done this with DSE and Mitre 10 in the past with no problems. Easier still if credit card was used. Just check through old statements with online banking to find date.

Otherwise, good luck with DishTV. They should know how old it is from the serial number.
