Hi Hoping someone can help me out with a weird issue I'm having.
Had Freeview connected via a set top box connected to sky dish and working perfectly  for a couple of years.
I upgraded my TV yesterday to a newish LCD TV, connected everything in the exact same way it was before and the result is - extremely fuzzy/blurry reception (but the Freeview is definitely there) and perfect sound.
Unsure what the heck to do as I know both the set top box and cords are fine as they were working previously on the older TV.

Any help would be hugely appreciated , Sorry if my explaining is a bit crappy!

Are you sure the satellite receiver even has component out? some of the low end cheap ones only have composite. E.g socket on back are yellow, red, white.

Please post the brand and model number of your receiver.

It obviously has as she said the connections used were identical to the older TV which worked OK. The only thing changed was the TV.

You are correct - The out put is composite (yellow , red , white) BUT like Biggles said I was using component cords with my old TV and everything was fine - for arguments sake I did try using composite but that gave me a worse result.

So upon getting home last night, I went to test out the DVD as we discussed to rule out the TV and noticed that the STB had an aerial input socket.
I plugged an aerial cord from that to the TV's aerial input socket and managed to trick the TV into thinking the STB was an 'aerial' via the analog auto tuning. This picked up the channel the STB was on and everything was perfect (except the color is of quite bad, everyone is pretty orange - will play with the color when I can be bothered)
Only annoying thing is - upon turning the TV back on this morning it is no longer tuned in..
Not a very good solution if I am having to re-tune every day haha

Who is Regan Gibbons?

The landlord replied last night saying communal aerial should be fine for free view. Said they were happy to help me if need be, only annoying thing is the cord for the outdoor areal is miles away from were the TV is stationed so would have to have extension cables all around the room lol

could always try indoor aerial for freeview hd, if it works then tv is ok and the building manager can sort out the communal aerial

know a regan gibbons?

That's good. Just make sure any cable you use is good quality rg6 and it should work. Worth trying just to get HD.

Did the DVD work on composite?

If the STB only has composite out then it needs to go to the composite AV input2. Won't work at all on the component input 1. Double check you had the yellow out to the yellow (Video in). If you had no picture you may have got an audio and video lead swapped. Very easy to do if using RGB leads instead of red, white, yellow.

The analogue picture you get from the RF out is the worst possible. Rf = worst, Composite = reasonable, Component = good and HDMI = best.

Didn't try the DVD on composite as got distracted thinking I found a solution!
Tried using both component input one and AV input 2 with correct cords - both had some form of picture but not watchable , definitely had the leads right.
And yes the Rf quality was definitely average! plus there's the fact i would have to re-tune everyday.

Sounds like i'm left with two options

1 - Check DVD works and if that all goes OK - keep on the look out for a reasonably priced STB with HDMI output

2 - Attempt to get the UHF to work with the inbuilt tuner and live with having extension leads around the room

Shouldn't need to tune the TV every time. Tune once, assign to a channel number and forget.

And you only need one cord from antenna wall socket to TV so shouldn't be unsightly.

I did assign it to channel etc unless my partner is lying and he did fiddle with something when I went to bed lol (but he is adamant he didn't)

Yea I have the extension cord for wall socket to tv - just a pain it's on the complete other side of the room. but yes if I manged  to get it to work that way I could live with it.

Will definitely check TV via dvd player tonight though and I think the simplest option assuming it will work is to find a STB with HDMI

Will let you know brand and model after work but pretty sure it can't be at fault as it was working perfectly on another TV
