Hello,

I tried to search here for some solution but didn't find.

I have a Hyundai Q401 TV that seems to have the HD receiver capability but when I've installed the indoor antenna and serch for the channel, it does find the channels and their programs but I got just a black screen and no sound.

I'm attaching the screen showing the signal strength and quality. How can I solve it?

Hi Leonardo

Your TV is not Freeview Approved and quite often may not work with the Freeview Broadcast properly.

Unless someone has a solution that can be fixed then I recommend you buying a set top box which can connect to your TV to decode the Freeview signal.

Cheers
Joshua

Is it a NZ model TV? The only manual I have found online indicates it is an ATSC Digital TV in which case it won't work in NZ or Australia but probably only in USA. NZ uses DVB standard, not ATSC.

Actually i don't know where this TV come from, I bought them from second hand a long time ago.

OK. Chances are it's not a NZ model but worked OK on Analogue before the Digital Switch Over but the Digital tuner is incompatible with our NZ System. The 64-QAM button would indicate it also has a tuner for Cable TV hence I suspect it's a USA model. I've never seen a Hyundai brand TV in NZ but they do make STBs for the NZ market. Does it have any labels on the back? It's most likely as Joshua says you'll need to get a FreeviewHD or satellite STB to use it for NZ Freeview. A photo of the back of the set (any labels) and it's remote may provide more clues to it's origin.

There are plenty of set top boxes which you can purchase through all leading retailers, if your stuck then the Freeview Website has a list of the equipment here: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/equipment-installation/approved-products.a...

I hope this helps in getting Freeview!  From what it looks like, this is the only way in getting Freeview signals via separate set top box. :)

Kind Regards
Joshua

5 seconds in Google found the manual

page 52 onwards for tune in instructions,.

I think you don't have enough signal quality can you try it with a better antenna? the manual refers to using a 2nd antenna input at the back for digital?

Looks like these guys were the distributer, site seems to be down though

And if you look at pg 87 of the same manual you'll see it's an NTSC (American) system tuner and if it has a digital tuner it be ATSC and will not be compatible with our NZ DVB system. Without knowing the origin of the set or what sort of Tuners it actually has it's impossible to say for sure what the problem is. Hence the need to see a photo the labels.

I'll provide the photo.

I have seen that manual and as you can see I got significant signal level. The second antenna would be for analog and digital signal together.

Apparently it's from Canada.

So it's manufactured for the USA/Canada market which is why it won't work with NZ's  Freeview DVB System. Canada uses the ATSC system same as USA for Digital TV.

Can you see anywhere in the menus a factory reset or country setting?
