Hi people, I am currently staying at a place with no outside antenna. Have a tv with no built in freeview. Is it just a matter of buying a freeview box and an inside digital aerial to get myself watching channels or is it a bit more complicated than that?? Any help much appreciated

Yes. You will need a Freeview STB and if an indoor antenna doesn't work you'll need to install an outdoor UHF antenna. Indoor antennae usually require a massive signal i.e. you need to live reasonably close to the Transmitter or have excellent line of sight from antenna to Transmitter.

Hi Lloyd

As Biggles have mentioned below, all you need is a Freeview Approved unit and a UHF aerial. A indoor aerial is not recommended, although it might do some of the job, overtime interference will cause issues and it is not as reliable.

Explore some options and if you want to do some DIY in installing the UHF aerial, have a look here: http://freeviewforum.co.nz/page/antenna-guide and http://freeviewforum.co.nz/tip/rf

I hope this information helps! Let us know if you need any further information.

Thanks guys, off to have a look at freeview boxes this arvo, any brands to avoid?

When looking around, make sure the Freeview logo is on them, that way you will have a hassle -free time when using the box, it could be Freeview HD or MyFreeview HD or FreeviewPlus or MyFreeviewPlus which are suitable receivers.

Not really. Most of the cheapies are rubbish so you get what you pay for. If it dies after warranty expiration you should be able to get a replacement under the CGA. I've done this twice in the past before I got a Sony TV and Panasonic recorder. Never had any problems since.
