"As robbo said get an all power pass splitter and it should work without any problem , as I a spllitter with 3in 4out [2sat 1aerial in] splitter next to the dish with a cable going to a single box and another cable going to a 1in 8out leading to 5…"

"To do a simple split for both freeview and Sky with a 2 way splitter - should I buy/use a splitter with power pass on only 1 port ( and connect that one to the Sky decoder to power the LNB) and the second non-power pass port over to the…"

"The problem was introduced by swapping the sky receiver for the Dishtv S8100. Stopping the S8100 from powering the LNB may fix the problem, assuming that the S8200 has a same setup turn the LNB power to OFF page 31 or 37 of theS8200 manuals."

"You don't need a multiswitch for that , everything is on the same polarity"

"should get a multiswitch then which will deal with polarity and tone from each cable"

"Agreed, but still not good practice and not very useful if you want to change polarity of the LNB. At least one unit does need to power the LNB all the time."

willis replied to Julie Jamieson's discussion Replacing one sky box with Freeview
"no problem as both units will be sending 18v through an internal diode which is handy if 1 unit gets turned off"

Biggles replied to Julie Jamieson's discussion Replacing one sky box with Freeview
"Yes, and that could be your problem. Only one unit should supply power to the LNB. Try turning them all off except the main box. It's bad practice to connect multiple power supplies together. Makes it possible for the expensive magic smoke to…"

"Doesn't the all ports power pass allow power on all ports? A;; boxes / tvs currently connected have lnb power on, so I don't see why swapping one unit would change that?"

Biggles replied to Julie Jamieson's discussion Replacing one sky box with Freeview
"Only if one port on the splitter is a power pass. If all ports are power pass then only one box should have LNB power enabled and would need to be on all the time for the others to work."

"But the existing sky boxes are both set to on, as is the built in from the TV. Doesn't the splitter take care of that? I have been through the LNB set up on the dish tv box & didn't see anything as simple as LNB power or antenna power"

"I can't find a S8100 manual online but the S8200 manual has LNB Power On/Off setting in the Installation Menu under LNB Setup. It should only be set to On if it is the Primary Box. Basically only one box should be sending power to the LNB and…"

"OK, I can get them both working together, but as soon as I switch off the Dish TV box (not at wall, just on remote) the signal goes from the sky box. Power it back on & the signal comes back. I don't really want to have the box running full…"

"Hi if it was the splitter, wouldn't we lose signal in all rooms? But yes - it is all ports power pass"
