I have Magic TV and Vantage DVD recorders connected by HDMI through a video upscaler to a Sony Bravia television.

Both recorders needed to be retuned to recover missing channels after 1 May. However, an autoscan retune on the Magic TV recorder relocated Prime and the other missing channels (not sure about Choice) whilst repeated autoscans and a manual scan on the Vantage fail to find the missing channels.

The aerial connection from the wall socket loops through the Vantage to the Magic TV and then to  the television.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why one recorder picks up the lost signals and the other doesn't?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony

Thanks for your enquiry, from my understanding with Digital Equipment with these tuners seem to receiving mixed frequencies as they are shared from the single UHF aerial but you are looping the Magic TV signal via the Vantage.

It looks as though both pathways will interfere with the signal because of how the frequencies travel through one box and the other looses another.

Have you tried disconnecting the Magic TV and Aerial cable from the Vantage box and rescan? You might be able to pick up all the channels...

My solution is that you purchase a Signal Splitter with all ports power pass and connect the Magic TV and Vantage Box individually to pick up the right signals..

Hope that helps, will be happy to clarify if needed

Kind Regards
Joshua

Thanks Joshua

I did take the Magic TV Recorder out of the signal path but it didn't seem to have an effect.

I'll have another go.

If it is the Vantage HD6000 you are discussing, further information is on the DTV Solutions forum.

Hi Anil

Thanks for pointing out the DTVS thread.

I followed the instructions on the DTVS website and was rewarded by the message 'You can't upgrade the software'. I not entirely sure which red button the instructions referred to.

The missing channel are detected at receivable signal strength during an autoscan but won't appear in the saved list.

Any ideas?

Tony

Hello Tony,
You will get the 'cannot upgrade' message if the file format required is incorrect or the file is corrupt. Download the file again and make sure to 'extract' the actual file and then try to load the '.si' file that is extracted. The "red" button is the one which is together with the "Green", "Yellow" and "Blue" button.

I suggest you send correspondence direct to DTV Solutions regarding this product.

Hi Anil

The downloaded zip file is 1KB which unzips to a 393 KB Vantage-AKLOther-ChSData.si file and a 4KB -.Vantage-AKLOther-ChSData.si file on a Mac. I am using the 393 KB file. Can I check with you  the button to press on selecting the file?

I have repeated the download and procedure just to check I get the same error message which i do.

What puzzles me is that the autoscan picks up the missing channels at over 70% signal strength but won't save them.

Cheers

Tony
