I have my Igloo receiver connected to the UHF aerial on my roof but it is not picking up any channels. I have checked all the connections on the aerial itself, on the splitter in my roof space and at the plug where the Igloo box connects to the wall. Does anyone have suggestions as to what the problem may be?

Hi Mike, I'm not sure when the aerial was installed. It was at least 6 years ago as that is when we bought the house. In regards to the direction, it is pointing pretty much straight at the transmitter on Mt Taranaki. I do live in a slight dip so not sure if the aerial has direct line of sight to the transmitter. The Freeview website says my location is very likely to receive HD reception so maybe the polarisation is wrong. I assume that is something a technician has to check. Could it possibly be a type of cable issue? or the splitter I am using?
Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated.

Hi Andy, when was the aerial installed? It might be aiming at the wrong transmission site or be set to the wrong polarisation. Have you used the coverage checker on www.freeviewnz.tv to make sure you have reception at your place?
Hi Andy does anything come up on the Tv screen telling you to reconnect to the aerial or is that blank ? . With my 1st box I had to return it as it was faulty and Igloo sent me a new one to replace it with a free courier pack for the return but 1st try by going into the menu to settings then go into diagnostics , then use the factory reset to reboot the unit and see if that will help . If that doesn't try their free help line .
Also Andy I also have an igloo box and my main problem with mine is that a lot of the time I can't get either the TVNZ or the Media works channels with a notification telling me that I need to plug my coax cable back in trouble is I get the freeview and Sky channels with no problems
What were you using before you got the Igloo box and were you getting a signal OK before analogue switched off?
Are you getting the Igloo's menu onscreen?
Hi David. I cant do anything in regards to the Igloo box itself because as soon as it starts the only option is to scan for channels, then tells me it cant find any.

Hi Biggles, before th digital switch over I was using the same aerial outlet. The reception wasn't that good so I had an indoor amplified aerial connected as well which seemed to work. I have just read that if you couldn't get Prime or Maori TV before then that's an indication of poor signal. Maybe that is the problem because we couldn't get either of them, just 1, 2 and 3.
As for the Igloo menu, it starts up fine and then guides me to the channel scan which I can start but it doesn't find anything.

OK
That's a good indication that your aerial and/or cale/splitter is faulty. The fact that you couldn't get Prime or Maori indicates the antenna is probably not a UHF one.
I would suggest a new UHF only aerial and rg6 cable direct from the aerial to the Igloo box.
You could also trie the amplified indoor antenna as an interim measure. It might work but you can't beat an external aerial.
Alternatively get a pro antenna installer to look at the problem He will have the proper gear to sort out the problem
Thanks Biggles
Sounds like that's the best option. I did look at the aerial and opened the cable connection box attached to it. It had cables running to VHF and UHF connections and I traced the UHF one to my splitter so hopefully I don't need a new aerial, but if so then it will have to wait until we have the funds. Hard drive will do in the bedroom until then.
Thanks again for your input.
