We have a Panasonic viera Plasma TV,about 4-5 years old as well as a DVD player ( SONY, about 10 years old) and a DVD recorder, Panasonic DMR ES15).
Before the digital switch over, we used to record the news on the DVD recorder and then watch them later when the kids were in bed. If it ever collided with any other programmes we wanted to watch, we finalised the DVD and watched it on the DVD player and used the DVD recorder at the same time to record the other programme on another DVD.
Now we installed a Loranz Freeview STB and don't seem to be able to record at all onto the DVD recorder anymore. We have tried to connect the RF out cable from the STB to the DVD recorder but there does not seem to be any signal coming out. The STB is connected with the usual yellow/red/white cable to the TV but we really would like to connect the DVD recorder as well. Can it be that the RF out is blocked or " just a loop" as somebody in a shop told us or is it more likely that it is broken?
We know that we could record onto the USB but that does not help us if we want to watch it while recording something else. What can you suggest other than just buying a new TV / DVD recorder etc?
Thanks.

Hi Jana,
Welcome to the wonderful and confusing world of Digital TV.
Your Loranz Freeview STB will be most probably be sending out a signal via its 'RF Out' connection but that signal is going to be a digital one. Your DVD recorder only has a analogue tuner so it will therefore 'see' NO signal.
Does your Panasonic telly have an HDMI input??
You could buy an HDMI cable and connect the Loranz STB to the TV using HDMI. This will give you a far superior picture and the HDMI cable also carries audio to the TV so only one cable is required.
Then, you could connect the DVD recorder's inputs to the Loranz's composite video and audio output connections. (Via the good old yellow, red and white cables that you currently have connected to the TV.) enabling you to record whatever channel the Loranz is set to.
(I think your DVD recorder has standard input AV connections on the front panel or you may need a SCART plug, with a cable with the yellow, red and white RCA plugs, to plug into the rear.)
Hopefully the Panasonic TV has enough inputs (Can't use that RF one) to allow the DVD recorder to connect back into it as well.
The more elegant solution (But more expensive.) would be to buy a MyFreeview STB that has twin tuners and an internal hard disk and do away with the DVD recorder entirely.
Hope this helps and hasn't confused you.
Alan
As Alan says. Connect the STB to your TV with an HDMI cable. You can then watch in HD.
Connect the DVD recorder input to the red, white, yellow out on the STB and the DVD out to the red white yellow on the TV (or preferably component red, green, blue plus red white if it has those connectors). This is what I used to do with my STB before I bought a Freeview Television and Recorder. None of your rf connections will work as they are all analogue tuners except the antenna input to the STB which has the only digital tuner. The rf out from the STB is digital only now.
See Network Status page for updates.
