I am not happy that we still have no service in Timaru once again. We see reports that the crew is out there fixing things but where have they come from - the North Pole?? They took days last time and there was no storm. Surely there is a backup generator to provide power to the transmitter. We bought a UHF aerial in good faith and a Dish box but it looks like its a fizzer now. We will have to fore-go our HD and get a satellite box because the Cave outfit is unreliable.
It seems too muchg trouble to kept us informed too as the last update was 8am and its now 8pm.
I am miffed.........................

Hi Joanne - it must be something with your setup, the HD service has been running fine off the generator since around 6pm last night (Wednesday). It will eventually come off the generator when the fix the main lines but it has been working ok today.
Try re-tuning your receiver, we recommend HDBUDDY or DTVS as the most reliable receiver brands - there was been quite a few issues with the DishTV ones.
Hopefully after a re-scan you will be able to pickup the feed again.

Thats strange because I tried to get it several times yesterday Thursday and it wasn't till 9pm I thought i would give it one more try and there it was. I didn't do anything except turn it on so can't understand why no service.
My apologies if I was a bit premature in my mail but it was frustrating....
Joanne
Thanks Edgar Technology for the retuning tip & thanks also for confirming when service was restored.
Joanne - not sure why your device took a while to restore itself (normally automatic pretty much straight after the transmission provider restores service).
Thanks for your feedback on how well you're kept updated - I gotta say it has improved a lot since a couple of years ago, guess the transmission provider's first priority is to get the service back up and running, which takes time & coordination with technicians, lines companies etc. - it's a process of continued improvement, which is to be expected, I reckon, given that the NZ-wide adoption of digital TV tech is still a relatively recent phenomenon.
I'm still getting patchy service here in Timaru. Its come up with No signal a few times today and it freezes in the middle of a programme. Its really windy here again so maybe more problems with the transmitter?
Hi DBrown - I'm watching the HD service at the moment and it's fine here. Could be a number of things - is it running direct through a TV or through a HD receiver?
With the recent high winds & the ones that are just starting again your aerial may have shifted slightly & even if it's only a little off you can experience pixelation, freezing, sound issues and loss of certain channels!
Try unplugging either your TV/HD receiver (whichever one you are using) at the wall - not just with the remote or the on/off button for 30sec and restart. If it's still having issues it may be something to do with the aerial.
Looks like there are high winds forecast all weekend!
Hi, Its a HD capable TV and receiving via a Dish aerial receiver box. Will try unplugging it tomorrow morning. In the middle of trying to watch a movie at the moment and if I go fiddling with it now - I might lose it altogether lol.
Thanks :)
