No HD (low res) Issue - FreeView+SamsungTV+Dish

Hi. Hoping someone can help please. I'm not receiving FreeView in HD quality.

This is my set up (or as best as I can describe/know)

- Samsung Smart TV with inbuilt FreeView Tuner 2014.
- F connector cable from wall to TV.
- I believe the apartment is cabled to a Sky dish on the roof.
- Box in the cupboard is a Matchmaster 10mm-dda24.
- All three inputs on the Matchmaster are connected (Terrestrial, Satellite and RF feed)

The only time I could ever get any signal and tuning was by following the article in the link below, by changing the LNB Oscillators to 10750 Mhz on the TV. Once tuned, the quality is definitely not in HD, its 520i or something similar with 70% signal strength.

Hi Chris,

Looks like you are receiving Freeview via Satellite which means that all channels are in SD (Standard Definition) no HD channels are available at this present time.

Your built in tuner must be a Hybrid which means it has two connections, one for satellite and one for the UHF aerial which will carry Freeview HD channels. You will need to find the cable which comes from the UHF aerial and connect this into the RF port, which is the non screw type connection at the back of your TV. If the aerial and satellite dish are connected using one cable then it's best t purchase something called a F Connector to RF Plug. which can be found at AV/TV retailer shops, trademe or Dicksmith and Dish TV. simply screw one end rom the cable and then plug into the RF port on your TV and see if you can receive Freeview HD channels using that tuner.

I tried the F to RF adapter and could not tune anything in (as best as I could). I did a quick check around the property and there does not appear to be a UHF aerial (despite the splitter box having a cable in the UHF socket). As I understand from your notes, there's no HD via satellite, so if it is indeed true I have no UHF ariel, then its not possible for me to receive Freeview in HD quality? Should this be the case, I suppose I will need to look at UHF options.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your update, first you should check to see if you can receive Freeview HD via an aerial or just only Freeview Satellite here: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/get-freeview/get-freeview/ just enter in your address and it will tell you what options are available,

If you can get Freeview HD ( or FreeviewPlus) then it's best to talk to the landlord or management to get the UHF aerial connected to the apartment, they should be able to do this regardless.
