getting a veon sat101 to recognise a seagate 2t hard drive

help lol i have a veon sat 101 freeview and did have a wd 1 t hard drive attatched for recording, have had lots of trouble with the hard drive having to re format about 4 times and losing everything i went and got a seagate 2 t hard drive but the freeview saying its not there. i had read maybe it was too big so i split the hard drive in half while converting to fat32 but still nothing, please help

Is the Hard Drive externally powered i.e. got it's own power plug?
