If the VCR is fitted with an  AUX or Line Input    switch to that rather than the tuner setting  .

Connect RCA cable from the Freeview box  VIDEO Out   often colour coded yellow

and then the sound with another RCA cable   If stereo VCR then connect a second rca audio cable  .

Works fine to me   even though I prefer to record on the old 160Gig Panasonic Hard Drive recorder   via the same method

So your area has already gone digital and you can still record?

Yes we went digital 5 years ago .  Analogue turns off end Sept    but I have not used the analog service for several years  .   Just replace your recording source with a Freeview box !!  ( record from freeview box rather than the VCRs analog tuner )

For the record, you definitely CAN use MyFreeview to record after the digital switchover (digital recording is what MyFreeview is designed to do!!!). 

Ordinary receivers or TVs with in-built Freeview only have one tuner so you can only record or watch one channel - you can't record & watch something else at the same time.

With 2 built-in tuners, MyFreeview lets you watch a show and record something else at the same time (one tuner points to what you're watching, the other points to what you're recording), or your can record 2 channels at the same time.  So much more flexible and easier-to-use than trying to connect your VCR to your receiver.
