Hi, I recently bought an indoor UHF aerial, which says it should work for Freeview. It's a DDS one with the serial number DDS201 (Googling that gives the model). I've plugged it into my TV, pointed it towards where a map says the transmitter is (I'm in Invercargill, if that's relevant) but it only seems to pick up Maori TV, Prime, Trackside, Choice, Sommet Sports, Cue, Firstlight and TV9. I can't seem to pick up any other channels. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Or is my aerial simply not adequate for everything else?

Thanks!

Hi Christopher,

Looks like you are almost right however the UHF aerial is picking up one side of channels,
The transmitter is a Vertical polarization so try adjusting the antenna so that it points vertical. Try a re scan, if it dosnt pick up TVNZ Channels like TV One HD or TV HD the try moving your UHF a little bit more (May best to get two people to help to tell you if you pick up something.

If that doesn't work, ensure that the TV has added the following frequencies for your area:
This can be added using the setup of your UHF installation on the TV Screen

32 (562MHz) 34 (578MHz) 36 (594MHz)

The frequencies above have the channels in each.

Let me know how that goes on.

Regards

Joshua

Ah yup, I'm picking up the 594MHz one, but not the other two. I tried putting them in manually but it just says that it can't find a digital service.

I'm not quite sure how to change the polarisation of the antenna either. I'm currently kinda just lying it on its front so that the loop of the aerial is rotated 90 degrees, and I did get that to make it sit and try scan for a channel on 562MHz for a bit longer, but it still won't actually pick up any extra channels.

What Television Do you have?

It's a Sharp Aquos LC-46LE840X.

To just need to rotate the UHF 90 Degrees to get Vertical and Horizontal, Hmm It would be the aerial that is not getting into those extra channels,

I have searched the archives and this page has information about the V and H.
Let me know on here if that helps or not and I'll enquire it into further support.

Cheers

Joshua

I'm not entirely sure it is the polarisation. Like I said, I tried tipping the aerial on its side (Which is what googling seemed to say was the right thing to do) and it didn't pick up any extra channels, but I'm also not entirely sure why, if it is the polarisation, I'm still picking up the 594MHz channels but not the other two.

I suspect it is a problem with the aerial though. I might have to go get a refund on it. Ah well, I've still got a set top box that works with my satellite dish, I was just hoping to get a direct connection to freeview on my TV.

Pop to the local store and buy a cheap indoor UHF antenna and see if that is the aerial before you go back to the retail shop, The indoor antennas can be purchased at $2 Shops for a few dollars.
