I don't have a smart tv so I watch on demand using my laptop via GoogleChrome and Chromecasting to my tv. There is a noticeable difference between the technical quality of Freeview Ondemand and the on demand tv I watch from BBC and other UK tv sources (I use a VPN for these). The NZ streams are glitchy, sound stutters and picture sometimes freezes whereas the UK material usually plays smoothly.

I would be interested to hear if other forum members have the same experience or are you all using smart tvs?

Thanks for your post,

It really depends on the hardware you are using, especially if the casting is done from the Chrome Browser on the laptop. I personally have experienced some glitching on my computer if I cast, however bear in mind that my computer is fairly older.

But it would be interesting if anyone else uses this?

The glitching I get casting NZ Freeview Ondemand is far worse than that from other internet sources, most of which runs pretty smoothly. My laptop is a couple of years old.

Incidentally, I'm successfully using Chromecast with a VPN, something that is supposed to be impossible.

UPDATE: I have replaced my smartphone (4 years old) and using my Samsung S9+ to cast TVNZ OnDemand I get much smoother viewing than using my laptop.
