Leading title, I know.

Here's why,

I have a STB that is admittedly very old (a DSE G7503 from 2009, yeah yeah I know).

From some time between 21:30 Monday night (9/4) and 21:30 Tuesday night (10/4) it's stopped showing pictures on the JDA Mux (Channel 37).  Audio works fine, i.e. I'm getting Prime, Choice etc without pictures.  All other Muxes show all other channels just fine, pictures and sound.

My question is, is my antiquated STB finally dying or has there been a tweak made on the JDA transmitter here in Wanganui? (Mount Jowlett)

My Sony Bravia (from 2011) receives the JDA Mux fine, which makes me think the STB is dying, unless the STB was coded in the olden days and contains something not transmitted anymore which the TV can still handle.  Basically I'd just like confirmation that the Transmitter hasn't had any updates, before I consign what might be the oldest active* DSE G7503 to the new position of 'Door Stop' in the lounge.

Thanks and smiley-face to you all.

* Hey, if you have one that's older be sure to correct me!  It seemed most of there that weren't hacked to take a USB stick died from heat exhaustion, if nzdtv forum is anything to go by.

Have a look here for troubleshooting information and checking signal quality instructions for the ZMT series receiver (which is the same inside as the G7503)

Especially have a look at the signal quality (green bar) and signal strength (yellow bar) in manual scan mode which will give you an indication of a failing receiver (assuming your aerial signal is ok) as per the instructions found at the above link.   If the signal strength indicator is varying a lot and dropping to zero the receiver is probably on its way out.

If the signal strength is not erratic then you could try a restore to factory default followed by a rescan.   I wouldn't do  that though if you think the receiver is failing as you will most likely loose the channels you still have

Hi Graham,

I should have mentioned in my post, I had tried a factory reset and the problem persisted.  No channels lost either, which made me think somethings been changed at the transmitter end.

It found all the channels transmitted from Kapiti when I rescanned it too, but being a good little receiver (almost) it didn't put in any duplicates.  I might try scanning just the Kordia Mux from Kapiti when I get a chance and see if that's any different.

Update - I managed to sneak on the telly in a commercial break in the Comm Games... all channels on Mux 37 are working fine again now, pictures and sound.  Both signal and quality bars were stable, so it's probably not the box at all, hooray!

Just for kicks, I also scanned for Kapiti (signal strength is pretty good today thanks to the Sou'wester) all came in clear as a bell pictures and sound, so I think it was the transmission signal at fault.

Thanks for your reply and help, top service given the age of the box!
