"ok I pressed forgot password, created a new one using my laptop. Then I turned off the freeview unit, unplugged from the wall, waited 10 seconds, plugged it back in, entered my new password and hey presto, working"

I have tried turning the volume down to the lowest setting almost mute before I put it on ""Standby" and don't turn off the machne fully, volume is still high when I turn it back o again.
