The caveat for this is that the channels must come from only two transponders on the satellite as there are only two tuners on the s7090. This was the situation until Prime moved to a different transponder. If you are recording a program from Prime, one of the s7090's two tuners will be locked to the Prime transponder and this reduces your options on recording and viewing other channels. It still shouldn't lock up the s7090 when you swap around though.
Just gave your scenario a crack on my s7090.
I could not get the machine to lock up when switching around the channels.
I was recording TV One and Prime and I could happily switch around all the channels. If I tried to go directly to a channel that I could no longer access, because both my tuners were using other transponders, I got the banner "Invalid Entry" displayed. But no lock up.
I am running the latest firmware that I downloaded from DishTV's website and installed manually. It is Version 1.61. I don't know if it has been sent out via OTA but it certainly does not seem to have the lockup problem that you are experiencing. (It certainly still pops up those screens when a series ends. Grrr!)

might be the LNB setting you have set on your device, Ffollow these instructions to restore your channels
1. Press Menu and select System Installation, and then Edit Satellite
2. With Optus D1 showing at the top, cursor down to LNB No. scroll left and right to LNB1 or LNB2 and select the one which shows the 100% yellow signal bar at the bottom and press
Ok
Let me know on how you get on

box would be any better. My opinion is that Freeview Plus is a waste of time anyway as it only allows Live TV plus TVNZ and TV3 on demand at rubbish quality. As you are in Auckland I would recommend installing a UHF antenna and obtaining either a Freeview STB so you can at least view Live TV in HD (provided your TV can handle HD) or better still get a Recorder such as a Panasonic or other PVR which can record in HD. Another option is get a Freeview TV. Most new models will now record to an external Hard Drive. You can still watch TVNZ and TV3 on demand via you PC or Laptop by connecting the video out to your TV. The advantage of having a recorder is that you don't need Freeview Plus as you can record off air so you don't need the catchup option. I've found it better to download programs/series I like from the Internet and watch at leisure without ads. They are also generally in HD and surround sound which you won't get via Freeview Plus or via SKY TV. Satellite TV is also rubbish quality unless you subscribe to Sky and get a MySky HDI decoder with an HD ticket and they charge an arm and a leg for very limited channels in HD.…
ve only Optus D1 D2 D3 C1 and New Satellite options.
No Prime, Four Plus 1 or Edge in my list. Paul said:

ts and squawks while watching TV. Assuming the wind or something had changed the dish angle, so armed with signal meter up onto roof to re-calibrate the dish I went.
Tweaked dish up down, left right, but it appears it was still pointing in the sweet spot. So must be LNB I thought, took the LNB from caravan mobile dish, and tried that, same quality... tried a new cable...no improvement...tried my best to ensure that the LNB was nulled, and confirmed that 8 o'clock seemed best.
So at that point other priorities etc have kept me busy...but over the month it has gotten worse.
other transponders off the D1 satellite still give me good reception.
98% signal strength...
TP 12456: SNR=97% BER <= 50
TP 12483: SNR=70% BER > 2K (when receiver can actually get a lock)
The above stats are for the old Sharp, and the new LNB...so the old sharp does not seems to have drifted.
any thoughts, obvious mistakes etc...?
Thanks

I lost reception altogether. But the weird thing is, whenever I turn on the Satbox it actually works for the first few minutes (anything from around 10 seconds to 4 minutes) and then I lose reception and get the message "No signal, check you cable or satellite dish".
I've done all the usual things like unplugging everything, turning it off at the wall, waiting ten minutes then trying again. I've also put the Satbox back to factory defaults and then re scanned.
When I turn it on I watch carefully while its booting and it appears that the only time I get any reception is during the initialising process.
I've checked my record list (just in case it works in the wee hours when I wouldn't actually be watching TV) and the last (successfully) recorded program was on the 17th of June. It recorded between 6.30am and 8am. Other than that its recorded nothing.
I'm stumped because I would have thought that if there was a major fault (maybe the LNB) there'd be no reception at all at any time.
Would love to get to this sorted. Any help gratefully received.

Thanks to Paul & Graham for providing these instructions.
You will need to use your Hills Remote.
Please check your LNB Settings before you proceed (instructions differ depending on
d they were all down to user error or set-up issues unrelated to the restack. For example, retuning a TV but not the HD receiver (in this case the TV was simply used as a screen and it's the receiver that needed to be retuned), using a satellite dish or getting signal from a shared aerial.
If you're not having success with retuning, please first work through the troubleshooting tips.
If still no joy, please reply to this and let us know the following details because it would help us narrow down the possible solutions for you - thanks!
When your device warned you that 'All digital channel settings will be deleted' did you select OK / YES to proceed with the retune? If you didn't then you haven't completed the retune, please select OK / YES at this step to complete the retune.
If you have a receiver connected to your TV, have you retuned that receiver?
What aerial are you using? indoor/outdoor/type or description (if you have a satellite dish, your reception issue is unrelated to the restack, please post a separate discussion.)
What's your street address (don't wish to disclose? Do a Coverage Check & state output)
Are you in an apartment or using a shared aerial (with a central signal amplifier)?
Which transmission site is your aerial pointing at?
What's the polarity of your UHF aerial?
Have you tried a COLD RESTART? Disconnect the aerial cables, switch off power at the wall, wait at least 30 seconds before reconnecting and powering on, then retune.
Have you REMOVED OTHER DEVICES? Disconnected ALL other devices from your TV/receiver (such as analogue VCR, DVD recorders or SKY decoders, espeically if they're connected via coaxial cable). Connect the UHF antenna cable direct to your TV or receiver from the wall (without ANY other devices in between). Retune. See this tip on how to adjust your RF modulator to avoid retuning interference from other connected devices.
Have you tried a MANUAL TUNE or MANUAL SCAN on your TV or receiver? Please see RF Chart here which states what RF numbers to plug in during this process and refer to your DEVICE MANUAL for instructions.
Have you tried a FACTORY RESET on your TV and receiver? Please refer to your DEVICE MANUAL for instructions on how to reset to factory default.

There are two ways to update your S7070r: with a Firmware Update or through a Manual Update.
FIRMWARE UPDATE
DISH TV will be releasing a firmware update ver 1.30 which will be broadcast over the air t
