MyFreeview Satellite: Why do some channels disappear while recording

MyFreeview Approved devices are usually manufactured which contains "Two Twin Tuners" these are what receives the signals coming in from the Satellite Dish or the UHF Aerial. On the Freeview Platform there are channel groups that use different frequencies which are also known as a "Mux" or Multiplex.

On Freeview Satellite the following is:

Mux 1: TV One, TV2, Maori Television, TV One plus 1 and TV2+1, TVNZ POP UP.
Mux 2: TV3, FOUR, TV3 PLUS 1, Choice TV, Cue, Parliament TV, Shine TV , Hope Channel, Te Reo, Niu FM, Concert, National, George FM , Base FM.
Mux 3: Prime
Mux 4: The Edge TV, Four Plus1

On Freeview HD the following is:

Mux 1: TV One HD, TV2 HD, TV One Plus 1, TV2+1
Mux 2: TV3 HD, FOUR, FOUR+1, TV3 PLUS 1, The Edge TV
Mux 3 (K1 or J1):
Channels vary by area (please see MUX tip for more info)
Mux 4 (K2): Al Jazeera English, TVSN, YES SHOP and Apna TV.

When you watch TV without recording:

All Muxes will load from the tuners without any channels missing.

When you watch TV while recording:

The tuners will then be used to record one Mux while having the second Tuner to load the other Mux's if you decide to scroll through TV, The following is an example:

1. If you record PRIME on Freeview Satellite then you can still have access to the other full channels because the "2nd Tuner is being used"

HOWEVER

If you decide to record another channel at the same time such as TV3 or FOUR then both tuners are used and the TVNZ channels will no longer be available. for example:

1. If you record PRIME on Freeview Satellite and TV3 at the same time, then you will only be allowed to watch the channels available in the recorded group pile which means that channels such as TV One, C4 will be unavailable until one recording is finished.

The above is a reason why only some channels show when you record.

THE EPG

The Freeview EPG will also notify you if you have too many recordings on at the same time, and in this case if the programe repeats during the early morning then it will ask you if you wish to record on a later time, This applies with Channels with Time shift services such as TV One Plus 1, TV2+1, TV3 Plus 1 and FOUR Plus 1

The EPG May also warn you if you have too much recorded content and it has not got the required space to book shows.

There is also another problem with these groupings.

I was watching TV3 and during that time I had two programmes scheduled to be recorded. One on TV1 and the other on Prime.  These two programmes started recording while I was watching TV3 but then I decided to watch Prime which was recording and the whole thing locked up. I couldn't use the remote and the recording Prime banner stayed on the screen the whole time.  Couldn't change channels, power off or anything.  In the end I switched it off at the wall - surely there is a fix for this problem.  You should still be able to use your remote.  Incidentally neither of the two channels I wanted to record recorded.

I have dish tv S7090pvr.

This happened because TV1 / TV3 / Prime are on 3 different Mux (groups).

This is an issue with the S7090pvr software that will need to be rectified.

Report the problem to DishTV Support here.

I just got a satBox Ultra S7090pvr as well and the EPG wont let me record more than one programme at the same time.

For example; it is currently set to record a programme on TV3 from 8.30pm - 9.30pm on 11 May but when I try to add a programme on TV1 for the same time-slot it comes up with "This programme may not record as you have too many scheduled recordings at this time. Please check your record list".

When I first set it up I neglected to attach the LNB loop cable at the back of the S7090 but, after reading the manual, have now attached this - still no joy though. Tried powering off, then powering on again in the hope it would pick up that the cable was now attached but still nothing.

I wonder if a factory reset is required here?

According to the Dish TV website it should record two at the same time.

"Record two channels while watching a third or a prerecorded program (some channel combinations not available)"

It would seem then that there is a problem with your unit. It has 2 tuners and you have connected the loop cable so it should work. A factory reset is worth a try. If it doesnt work take it back to the retailer and ask for it to be fixed.

Assuming of course you have checked the recording schedule and there isn't another program set to record you knew nothing about.

Don't forget also that if you have it set to record two or more consecutive programs on the same channel there will be an overlap which will produce the message you are getting if you try to set record for another channel with same start time.

Try  updating  to the most recent firmware.

Hi Paul

I gave this a go but unfortunately it didn't work. In fact, the version on their website (167) is lower than the one that was on the unit (168) as the unit only arrived to me yesterday...so I've managed to downgrade it ;)

I'm hoping Dish TV will get back to me tomorrow with the fix - thanks anyway for trying to help.

Hi there - yes, being able to record two programmes at once was one of the major selling points for my wife when I convinced her we should upgrade ;)

I suspect the issue may be related to my connecting the loopback cable after setting it up but hopefully Dish TV can help tomorrow.

Cheers

Just a thought and stupid question. You did connect the loop cable from the 'out' socket on one tuner to the 'in' socket on the other? i.e antenna in to top left on back panel, loop cable from bottom left to top right socket? It can be a simple mistake to accidentally connect the two out sockets. Has been known for people to do this and find only one tuner works.

Cable from dish going to "LNB 1 IN". Loop cable going from "LNB 1 OUT" to "LNB 2 IN".

Definitely not a stupid question though - just checked cables are secure (they are). Suspect it is probably because when I first set the box up I did not have the loop cable connected and now the box thinks it is just working off one LNB...

Yes. May need a factory reset to recognise the 2 tuners although I would have thought just connecting the second one would do the trick.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

The issue was due to poor signal strength/quality (primarily signal quality). TV 1,2 etc were on the wrong frequency (had to run a blind scan to get them at all). A technician came around and fixed the LNB alignment which corrected the problem, now the device will record two programmes at the same time.

Obvious my second tuner can't be working
Also as prime has its own mux I shouldn't have any problems!,
