I have a Dishtv S7070r working on a sky dish. It was work fine up until about a week ago. Now what happens is it will work fine for maybe 10 mins and the picture will start skipping for about minute before it freezes altogether and I get chirping noises from the audio. If I turn the set top box off for a while and turn it back on it will repeat the process. Sometimes all channels will stop and sometimes it affects some channels and not others, e.g. at the moment can't watch 1,2,3,4,prime but edgetv is working fine for now but it usually fails eventually too. I have tried updating the firmware on the set top box which hasn't helped, I've tried retuning but that hasn't helped either.

So is the a set top box problem or do I need to get the dish looked at?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

see if you can borrow another sat box and see what happens

Good Afternoon Stephen

Have you tried a Factory Reset, this will loose everything but may solve the issues with the unit, retune and see if the noises replicate.

What is the picture like? Is it pixelated or the unit just freezes causing a hard reset.

Cheers

Hey I have just tried a factory reset and it hasn't made any affect on it. The picture will skip first then just freeze all together.

I'm thinking it is weather related as it was working ok last couple of days when it was over cast and cooler but when its clear it seems to do it. It is currently clear and around 20 degrees and it is skipping and freezing as we speak.

Sounds like it may be your LNB failing and drifting off frequency when it gets hot. Check your signal strength and quality. Also try watering the dish and LNB with a garden hose to cool it down and see if the picture reappears when it's cooled. If it does then you need to replace the LNB.
