Like all electronic equipment it's mostly luck. Most will last for many years while many will fail very quickly. Because they are now so cheap to buy there's basically no quality control with the components. They are a throw away item. I doubt very much that yours would have been used at a previous address. Sky don't move dishes if a customer changes address. They just install a new one if there's not an existing one. They certainly wouldn't reinstall a used LNB. My Sky dish has been in use for just over 7 years and signal strength would indicate the LNB is definitely no longer at it's best. We never ever used to get Rain Fade (except in Tropical type deluge) til this year but now it's started occurring in moderate rain. It's a Sharp 10750 which are prone to early failure so time for a new one soon methinks. I'm surprised it's lasted so long.

My one was in Snells beach and when I was given a sat box I was given it by my sister and move it to Waiheke

My Mothers LNB is a SHARP 11300MHZ (Single and not SKY) and has is still going very strong and stable since she first got Freeview installed back in early 2009.

It varies on range of factors and events that determine how long a LNB lasts for;

Brand, Size, Material, Weather, Location, Humidity levels.

I found have found that the same LNB one used in Auckland and one used in Northland (Bay Of Islands) the one in Bay Of Islands lasts a lot longer (Infact it's still going) than the one in Auckland and I suspect it's due to different climate and environmental factors)
