I have a Vesta 8310 topbox and satellite, which have been working fine for months now, I can't remember how long we have had it to be honest.

I turned it on yesterday to watch TV and for the first time ever since we have had it, it said no signal.

I don't know what to do! Nothing I try seems to work.

Please help me, Thanks in advance, T

Hi Tania

Have you experienced any bad weather, this could be strong winds, storms, rain?

Joshua

I admit there has been ad weather, but the day it stopped working there was clear skies.

I have tried retuning it but I only get a few foreign channels

One possibility springs to mind. There may have been a short mains power failure and the box needs to be setup again. Might help if you could check your menu and advise what parameters are set.

It happened here on the North Shore the other day and when our old Sky box fires up again it always goes to the Preview channel which is annoying if something has been set to record. It also takes a long time to boot up.

When it was originally set up we only had to plug in the aerial.

Model: VESTA8310

boot version: DVBS2_0.1.0

S/W Ver 1.00.03 (Apr 3 2013)

H/W Ver: Ver 0.1

Antenna: KU_OPTUSD1

It's picking up European channels only, no English speaking channels....

Trust me I'm fustrated

OK. Not all the parameters I meant.

Should be something like this

OPTUS D1

LNB type: Standard

High Frequency: 11300

LNB Power: ON

22KHz: On

0/12V: 12V

DiSEqC: #2

Positioner: None

Sounds like possibly your memory contents are lost or fouled up and you need to setup from scratch again. Read the manual for your STB and follow the setup instructions.

If that doesn't work I'd suggest setting a Pro Installer in to sort it out.

P.S. You can't receive European channels in this part of the world because their satellites are out of sight from NZ. Can you identify what channels you are seeing. The Freeview Satellite (Optus D1) only has NZ and Australian channels plus maybe a few Asian. See here

http://www.lyngsat.com/Optus-D1.html

if you are getting channels like arirang, syrian tv,eri tv southern sudan then you are on intelsat 19 which at 166 east is 6 degrees too far east

if channels are russia today, cnc world, hope tv,abu dhabi then youre on d2 at 152 degrees or 8 degrees too far west

the satellite you want is d1 at 160 degrees on a rigid mount

Please list a few channel names that you are picking up?

Did you have those channels as extra services when initially setup?

possibly your dish was installed as Freeview+ extra FTA channels on Optus D2 using a dual LNBF and a switch and the switch has failed.

Hi Tania.

So your picking up other channels not on Optus D1 (Freeview) but on another satellite which has non-English channels.

If you want Freeview channels again, it might be best to get an installer to have a look and see what the situation is, or someone you know who can look at the setup of your Freeview.

am guessing they bought one of these

http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/tvs/satellite-rece...

and did it themselves and hasnt worked out quite right

those dishes arent too bad,sat box is quite good even does mpeg 4 but the mounts are rubbish, these are good though  http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-photography/tvs/satellite-rece...

got the links wrong way around

Thanks everyone for your very helpful suggestions.

Nothing worked so I went and brought a new Dish TV sat Box and I now have tv!!!

Thanks for the update Tania
