HI, I've just moved to a new house and found out it only has satellite so had to buy a satellite box receiver.

I'm having trouble tuning it. I've done a blind scan on LNB 11300 (the guide to our home - it's newly built - said to use this setting). Now I can see the Optus D1 satellite has around 70% strength and 98% quality, but I am stuck getting any further.

It now shows 6 carriers and no services. When I press left to view the carrier list they all have number codes (e.g. 12456H_
22500) but all list 0 services.

Am I doing something wrong? The guide shows there should be a carrier called Freeview but I don't see this.

Some other info: apart from setting LNB to 11300 I have not changed any other LNB settings. I did the start-up scan per guidebook on first use but it did not find anything.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

This could be a couple of issues however lets try the basics first, we will attempt to double check our bind scan method  please follow these instructions: 

  1. Go to Menu Installation Tuning Wizard Blind Scan 
  2. Enter in the default password 0000 
  3. Please ensure that the Satellite Name is set to OPTUS D1 
  4. Skip the frequency,  ensure that the Polarization is set to Horizontal (H)
  5. Set the Search Type to FTA 
  6. Press OK to scan

What the unit should now have done is searched for FTA  channels on all available Freeview transponders, it is unusual that you are getting all the transponders without the services (Channels) so a blind scan would have fixed the issue with the Search Type set to FTA

If the above fails, please try the below steps to manually add the carrier details:

  1. Press the Menu button to bring up the main menu
  2. Select Installation and press OK
  3. Select Tuning Wizard and press OK
  4. Enter the PIN code for the unit (the default is 0000)
  5. Select Satellite Scan and press OK
  6. Press the left arrow to access the carrier list
  7. Press the Yellow button to access the Setup menu
  8. Select Add Carrier and press OK
  9. Enter 12456 for the Frequency
  10. Select Symbol rate and enter 22500
  11. Check that Polarity is set to Horizontal
  12. Check that network scan is set to Off
  13. Press OK to start the Scan process

    The scan process will take approximately 1 minute to complete.

Iif the services show on the unit the do the same steps except for Step 9. where you will enter the following 12483 (TVNZ, Maori)

Repeat for the following:

12707 (Prime, Four+1, Edge TV)

Thanks, but none of this has worked. A couple of questions:
- should I do a factory restart before trying this or keep the LNB set to 11300?
- where do I select the FTA search type? Not sure if this is my issue but on blind scan I only have the following options: sat name, start and end frequency and polarisation. No FTA option? In LNB settings there is a type option but it is Ku Bamd, Universal, etc
- on the blind scan screen it shows None (diseqc), None (tone burst), Off (22khz), On(power) and None (positioner) for the other LNB settings.

I also tried your second suggestion but it very quickly says tuning failed.

Anything else I can do?

Try a factory reset, allow the unit to scan for the channels .

Also, when trying different LNB settings a few times it has said "Dish out of range", not sure if this could be the problem?
Hi, no unfortunately I did the reset with the same result - it scans (quite quickly - takes about a minute) and then says Tuning Failed.

Or if as your profile says you are in Auckland, then just get and install a UHF antenna.

Use the Freeview Coverage checker on the website here: http://www.freeviewnz.tv/coverage.aspx and see if you can get  Freeview via an aerial.

Yes, I can definitely get an aerial but why does the $100 satellite receiver not pick up Freeview when it us definitely getting a signal? It it just that this is an older technology so I am best to go with UHF aerial option?

Could be many reasons from faulty LNB to finger trouble but why try to get a crappy SD satellite picture when you can get HD UHF?

Also it seems strange to me that your LNB is on 11700. Normally modern installations use 10750. It's also possible the dish may be pointing at the wrong satellite (D2 instead of D1).

As Biggles has suggested below, the case might be isolated to the Satellite Dish itself it might be on other Optus Satellites (Even though it may show a signal on Optus D1) 

Your satellite dish might be pointing at Optus D2 instead of the Freeview Optus D1 Satellite.

I recommend you going back to the retailer and get the Aerial Box instead because of complications of the Satellite set up.

Check to see if you have an UHF Aerial like this onethis one or this one on the roof or walls of the house, connect the UHF Cable which looks like this into the Arialbox

Okay thanks, there is no UHF aerial (thus going down this track in the first place) but think getting one installed may be the best option.
