Hi,

I have a friend that has a DishTV S7070r, which ran for several months with no issues but now will stop receiving channels ("no reception check cable/dish" message). You might get TV1 ok but when you press channel up to go to TV2 you will have no reception, then when you go back to TV1 sometimes it has no reception either. Turning off the STB at the wall sometimes fixes this -  but only temporarily - after changing channels they would all end up with the no reception message again. I have tried connecting the box to my satellite dish (on which I am running a Strong  SRT4651X with no issues) and the S7070r won't get reception either, it seems to be able to do a blind scan and "finds" heaps of channels but refuses to show any of them after saving the setup.  The S7070r shows 74% strength and 98% quality on the Optus Satellite at my place, whereas my Strong shows 97% strength and 98% quality.

I thought maybe my friend's LNB had deteriorated, but I assumed her STB would work on my system which the Strong seems to have no issue with. Are the S7070r's really sensitive to less than perfect LNB/cable/satellite setups? Or is something else going on? Just as an aside I bought her a brand new S7070r and it had exactly the same issue at her place.

Any ideas please?

TIA

how does your strong go at her place?

and the older 7070 seems terminaly confused, maybe a software update will fix it

Hi Willie,

To determine if the issue is either a setup or mechanical related, could you provide me with details on your Dish TV S7070r firmware, I want to know if the firmware you have (as willis has stated) are causing issues.

To do this, on your remote press Menu > System Configuration > Version ]

Tell us the following on screen

  • Hardware Version
  • Chip Version
  • Software Version
  • Date (Not the one on the top right)

Thanks

Hi,

thanks for replying, I will try my Strong box at her place in the next day or so. In the meantime I will take the old S7070r unit I have bought home with me to the neighbours, they are using a DishTV setup (I think also a S7070r) which is working so I should be able to plug my unit into their cable and if it goes then it's not the unit. I've upgraded the firmware via USB to the latest version this morning, it's still not really working although I can see Edge TV and the channels above that so perhaps this indicates my LNB is on the wait out?

Hi,

thanks for replying....

Hardware version = 1.1

Chip version = 1.1

Software version = A3U-1C-012B

Date  Dec 21 2013

regards

OK, I tried it at the neighbour's and it seems to behave properly, I could receive all channels up to Sommet (14) but then 15 16 17 18 showed no signal, a bit odd?? I didn't try above that, maybe I should have.  So it would appear it is the LNB/cable/dish setup both at my friends place and mine. Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable. Quite possible you both have failing LNB if they're getting old or both are slightly out of alignment.. No way to tell without replacing one of them or trying another location with a known good LNB.

on the freeview sat  service theres sommet on 14 next 1 is parliament on 22, cue 23, te reo 24,shine 25

and for some reason dish boxes show anything else as 10xx

Hi Willie

Yes, Biggles and Willis are on to it, it looks to us that your LNB will need to be replaced, because you are receiving some off drift frequencies which cause problems with the receiver.

It might be be best to get the LNB checked out and the alignment of the dish.

There is also new firmware available for your device, and you can find out more about this here: http://www.dishtv.co.nz/support/downloads.htm

A response from me finally.... Thanks to everyone for their help. I got hold of a couple of LNBs off trademe, tried to fit one to my friend's dish and of course she has a sky dish with a different type of LNB - sort of dual model with a different size mounting (of course, sigh). I tried to locate a matching LNB around Tauranga/Mount retailers (Jaycar/Dick Smith) but with no joy so we decided to get a professional in for her. Today I tried her old DishTV STB on my system after fitting a new LNB to my dish and it is all good. Yipee!, again thanks for the help everyone.

Thanks for letting us and Dish TV know about this, glad that everything is working again!

Joshua
