The 'no signal' rectangle appears on our TV more and more often. We have had  the Zinwell 7500 box that cost more than the TV for nearly 3 years, with very slight use.  It had to replace our first box that started not working after less than 1 year's use.

Weather conditions do not cause it. Aerial configuration etc has been checked. There appears no rhyme or reason. It gets worse and worse becoming virtually unusable due to the frequency of 'no signal '.

The graph at screen bottom shows 100% receptivity for each channel (newly tuned, took an hour for technician to get Prime we had not been able to get since digital start Oct 2013).

Yet is it the box? We know well a new TV with inbuilt Freeview that is just as bad, though that one also has receptivity issues.

Another problem growing in frequency with our set/Freeview box is total picture loss in the middle of transmission. It is rectified when video button pushed again.

Scanning the Net for solutions/pointers I see one posting that makes sense where others fail to explain. It poses that the technology is at fault — was not developed fully and well before releasing.

For over a year, we have been given the run around with the company we bought it from.  It no longer sell Freeview boxes....

We would like to be able to watch TV for the at most 3 hours or so per week we choose. Why is this no longer possible?

It's probably nothing to do with the STB but the LNB on the Dish which is probably temperature sensitive. As the LNB ages it tends to drift off frequency when it gets hot and back when it cools off. You could try adjusting the LNB freq in the setup menu up or down 5 - 10mhz which may help. However without getting in a pro with all the appropriate equipment it will probably be very difficult to confirm the problem.  Have you checked and compared your signal strength on all MUX?. Also as your Profile says you are in Wellington why not consider getting a Freeview UHF STB or new TV and a UHF antenna provided of course you are in a UHF reception area? This would enable to watch in HD instead of the rubbishy SD satellite standard.

Thanks for the response.

1) If it was the alignment why would it work sometimes with no relation to wind rain etc? And why has it got steadily worse and last 2 months rapidly really bad? Like the first box, it worked fine for a year or so.

2) We try leaving it on well ahead of the programme we are keen to see. Makes no difference. (tho sometimes it does work). We have even left it on all day... the no signal persists.

If you keep getting the no signal indication then it is more likely to be the LNB on your satellite dish failing rather than the STB. How long since your dish alignment and LNB were checked?

that zinwell dates from 2007

probably getting more and more confused

can it take a while between using the remote and the box responding?
