Tonight I set the box to record tv2 & prime at 7.30. Then we tried to watch tv3 at the same time and it said we could not watch tv3 because we were recording on 2 & prime. Yet we could watch tv1.

Have not come across this before.

That's normal. Your STB obviously has two tuners and when both are recording channels on different MUX you can only watch another channel that is also on one of those two MUX. TV1 and 2 are on one MUX, Prime is on another and TV3 is on yet another so can't be watched without a third tuner.
